Celebration of Life Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Breckenridge with Father Steve Pope officiating. Interment will follow in Breckenridge Cemetery by Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. Martha Frances was born in the country on Sept. 8, 1916, in Stephens County to Charles "Charlie" Branch and Buelah Rivers Stoker Branch. She attended school in Rotan, Abilene and Breckenridge. During her school years, she enjoyed the old country and ranching life, including riding horses with her much-older brothers when they would let her tag along. After graduation from Breckenridge High School, she attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock. At Tech, she was chosen to be one of the first "Red Raiders" to ride the black horse on the sidelines during football games. Martha used to laugh and tell the story that she was chosen to be a "Red Raider" because she was the only one on campus who had a black horse. Martha was unable to ride in any games, however, as at the urging of family, she withdrew from Tech to take care of her elderly mother. Martha later returned to Breckenridge and married Floyd James Bullock on April 7, 1937, in Eastland. Their home was always in Breckenridge, but they had business homes in Lubbock and on Tanglewood Island on Hubbard Creek Lake. She kept the home-front when her husband, Floyd, left to serve in the Air Force during WWII. After WWII, she helped Floyd run his liquor store business, which included the County Line and Cork Club on the county lines of Stephens and Shackelford Counties. She also had a much-loved ranch home outside of Rotan, which had been in her family since 1918. Martha was raised in a ranching family, and starting in 1958, through droughts and good years both, she ran her own cow/calf operation for nearly half a century. She raised good, uniform Hereford cattle. Martha Bullock was raised a Baptist but later enjoyed membership in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church of Breckenridge. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and a charter member of the Women's Forum in Breckenridge. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd James, after nearly 70 years of marriage. She was the last living member of her immediate family. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Clayton, W.I. "Bud", Leonard and George; and her three sisters, Beula, Lala Fern and Rudine. Survivors include her daughter, Karen Kay Payne and husband Gerald MD of Hereford; three grandchildren, Gerald Payne Jr. MD and wife Lisa Jil of Dallas and James D. Payne esq. and wife Lisa, all of Dallas, and Frances Renee Zinser (Martha Frances' namesake) and husband David of Hereford; four great- grandchildren, Dustin Hill, Cory Payne, Cash Payne and Bailey Payne; and many nephews and nieces and their children. Martha's family will miss her very much, including the visits and coffee at the breakfast table overlooking the cattle lowing in the pasture and the quail beginning to call... The family suggests memorials be to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 200 N. Easton, Breckenridge, TX 76424; The Breckenridge Meals on Wheels, Box 16, Breckenridge, TX 76424; or to a favorite charity. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kathy Boston Moore HEREFORD - Kathy Boston Moore, 60, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, in Amarillo.
