Gillespie Evelyn A. Gillespie, 87, of Amarillo died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Karel Cantrell of Amarillo First Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery East. Mrs. Gillespie was born May 4, 1919, in Onarga, Ill., and moved to Amarillo in 1983 from Illinois. She was a member of Amarillo First Assembly of God Church and the Oasis of Love Ministry. She enjoyed quilting, nursing home and homebound ministry. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karloyn Lyons, in 1990; a son, Russell E. "Scott" Moore, in 2000; and three sisters. Murphy Richard G. Murphy, 62, of Amarillo died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007. Celebration of life services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Murphy was born Dec. 23, 1944, in Borger to Tommy Ray and Ollie Baker Murphy. He lived his dream as a counselor for the Panhandle Alcoholic Recovery Center (PARC) and for the State of Texas as director of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program for the Neal and Clements units. Murphy was a beloved father, grandfather and friend to many in the community. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Mildred, Doris, June and Mary; and two brothers, Jackie Ray and Garland. Survivors include his fiancee, Vicki Ivie; a daughter, Glenda Thompson; a son, Ricky Murphy; two grandsons, Josh and wife Rebecca and Jason; his stepfamily, Bryan Terry and wife Sandy and their children, Brandy and Branden; a niece, Debbie Brewer; two nephews, Billy Culwell and Roger Holland; and a cousin, Judy Haynes. The family suggests memorials be to the Old Corral Club, The Moss Lane Club or a favorite charity. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Johnnie Mae Carlile Coleman Johnnie Mae Carlile Coleman, 74, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Coleman married Eugene on June 11, 1949. They had been married for 57 years and six months. Johnnie Mae loved to travel these United States with her husband, Gene, in their Airstream travel trailer. She was devoted in her pursuits as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and educator. Johnnie Mae was gifted at organizing parties, games and skits for her church, Sunday school class, mobile home park in Harlingen and the Airstream Travel Trailer Club that she belonged to. She loved preparing meals for her family and friends. She enjoyed entertaining one and all. One of her favorite times was celebrating Christmas with her home filled with loved ones. Johnnie Mae was a scholar and teacher who devoted her working years in the pursuit of helping her students with speech impediments and speaking the English language. She was a member in good standing of the following organizations: Alpha Psi Omega Dramatic Fraternity, Rho Theta Sigma, Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, The Association of the Decedents of Nancy Ward "The Beloved Woman," The Daughters of the American Revolution, Amarillo Speech and Hearing Association and Beta Sigma Phi. After a lengthy struggle with multiple myeloma, Johnnie Mae went to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Patricia Ann Coleman Haines, on Jan. 1, 2006. Survivors include her husband, Eugene Kenneth Coleman; a son, Michael Dean Coleman of Amarillo; her youngest daughter, Jeannie Marie Coleman of Jacksonville, Ark.; a son-in-law, Robert Haines of Midland; four granddaughters, Victoria Camille Haines Chen and Amy Marie Haines Schmidt, both of Forney, Vanessa Dawn Haines King of Aubrey, and Jennifer DeAnn Coleman Christie of Amarillo; a grandson, Michael Alan Coleman, USN of Guam; two great-grandsons, Joshua Chen and Jacob King; three great-granddaughters, Isabel King, Madeline King and Katherine Chen; a great-grandchild on the way, Baby "T" Christie; a brother, Robert "Bob" Carlile and wife Nadine "Deanie" Carlile; and numerous nieces and nephews. He loved a hard day's work, enjoyed a good game of softball and enjoyed the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Braves and Texas Longhorns. He enjoyed the company of dear friends, the community of Borger and the love of his family and the men and women of Comac. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Chester and Mary Lexie Williams McKee; and two sisters, Jackie Lynn McKee and Shirley McDaniel. Arrangements are by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch. L.D. married Dorthy Nell Scott on Nov. 17, 1956, in Tucumcari, N.M. Mr. Atkins was born June 13, 1922, in Nocona, and had been a Skellytown resident since 1957. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, L.D. worked as an instrument technician for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 37 years. In his spare time, L.D. used his talents and skills as a carpenter to help out friends, neighbors and family. He was a Methodist, a Mason and an honest, hard-working man. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Wofford Ford. Survivors include his wife, Dorthy Atkins; a son, Ronnie Atkins of Amarillo; a brother, Tommy Atkins of Nocona; and a grandchild, Mic Atkins. Thank you for your love and support. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Beale Barnard Denton BORGER - Beale Barnard Denton, 79, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Brown Funeral Directors Chapel of the Fountains. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. Beale passed away surrounded by his wife, Betty, children and grandchildren after his lengthy battle with lung cancer. He was born Oct. 20, 1927, as the first resident of Crane, two months premature in the back of a drug store. His father gave him CPR, built him a homemade incubator and gave him his love to survive and thrive these 79 years. He made his own home in Borger after marrying Betty Ann Grant, and they lived there for 54 years. They lived in Amarillo briefly while treating his cancer. Beale was the ultimate loving husband to his wife for 57 years, and wonderful father to his six children, 36 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, gentle pastor of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church in Amarillo for 33 years and dedicated chemical engineer for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1948. He and his wife were very active in the community with organizations such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Stamp Club, Genealogy, Grandmother's Club, Friends of the Library and Tri-Ad, among many others. His life was full of grace and he blessed all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.M. (Jesse Monroe) and Mary Elizabeth III (Barton) Denton; a sister, Geneva Waucel Denton Fowler and husband Waller Fowler; and two grandchildren, Lloyd Allen Hare III, and Kelly Michelle Denton.
