Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Johnathan Mast, pastor of Hillside Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Darla was born Dec. 13, 1941, in Amarillo. She attended Amarillo High School, where she was a varsity cheerleader. Diane graduated from Amarillo High School in 1960 and attended the University of Texas in Austin. She then moved back to Amarillo, where she met and married her husband of 42 years, Wayne B. Barfield, a prominent local attorney. Diane gave birth to her son, W. Brooks Barfield Jr., on June 25, 1965. Her daughter, Berkeley nn Barfield-Bobbora, was born three years later on Oct. 17, 1968. Diane continued to reside in Amarillo where she excelled in providing a loving home for her husband and two children. Diane was a devoted, loving, wife, mother, and grandmother. Diane loved two main things in this world, kids and dogs. It is fitting that God decided to bring her home on Valentine's Day, because she was one of the most caring and generous people a person could have the pleasure to meet. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Ruth Russell; and her father, Cyrus Aubrey Russell. Survivors include her husband; her children; a brother, Dr. David Russell; a son-in-law, Guy Bobbora; a daughter-in-law, Jonna Barfield; and five grandchildren, Brock, Brielle, Brooks, Mason and Madison. Mrs. Jones was born April 2, 1939, in Borger to Herbert Priest and Rena Priest VanTassell. She loved her little dog and going to church with her friends. She had an extremely big and kind heart and was loved by all. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Jones; her father, Herbert Priest; a brother, Pete Priest; and a granddaughter, Ralena Machele Ross. Cook, 80, of Amarillo died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Blackburn-Shaw Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Cook was born April 26, 1926, in Amarillo. She was raised in Mineral Wells and graduated from Mineral Wells High School. She attended Draughon's Business College in Abilene. Mrs. Cook returned to Amarillo in 1944. She attended Summitt Baptist Church, was a charter member of Forest Hill Methodist Church and is now a member of San Jacinto United Methodist Church since 1953. Mrs. Cook worked for M&W Variety Store in Mineral Wells and the Palomino Horse Office, also in Mineral Wells. She also worked for Walker-Smith Wholesale Grocery, Gas Ration Beard, KGNC and First National Bank, all in Amarillo. She retired from (First State Bank) (Bank of the Southwest) Texas, and Commerce Bank after 31 years, from August 1955 to October 1986. She was a former member of the National Secretary Association and served as treasurer for several years. Mrs. Cook was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary since 1971, she held office of guard and former representative to chapel service. She was also a member of the Women's Banking Association, Thursday Morning Prayer Group of San Jacinto United Methodist Church, the Rebecca Circle and Wesley Comrades Sunday School Class of the church. Survivors include a close friend, Bill Powell; a daughter, Cathey Phillips and husband Jackie; two sons, Randy Armstrong and wife Jane and David Armstrong and wife Mardis; a brother, Ted Lock and wife Charlena; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Traffas was born Jan. 24, 1911, in Barber County, Kan. He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked for Santa Fe Railway for 41 years. He was a volunteer for 31 years for Catholic Family Service, Crown of Texas Hospice and most recently, the Downtown Women's Center. He was also a Democratic precinct official for 20 years. He was married to his wife, Kathryn, for 44 years before her death in 1989. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with Dr. Charles Jones of Hollywood Community Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Andy Mathson was born in Holiday, N.D. He graduated from high school in 1939. He attended Minot, N.D., State Teachers College and was a Golden Gloves Champion for the state of North Dakota in 1939. Mr. Mathson worked at St. Charles Hotel in Dickenson, N.D., managed the Farmer's Union Oil Co. in Rhame, N.D., for 3½ years, and then worked for the Gates Rubber Co. of Denver for 17 years. He also worked as the Territorial Manager for Gates Rubber Co., and worked for Amarillo Hardware Co. for 17 years as a salesman. Mr. Mathson joined the Navy in December 1941. On Sept. 22, 1942, he was torpedoed off the US Bellingham and was picked up out of the sea by an English trawler - The Lord Austin - and was also torpedoed off of it on the same day. While in the Navy he received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Area Medal, The European African, Middle East Campaign Medal, one Bronze Star, one Silver Star and World War II Victory Medal. He also received the Philippine- Decoration Medal for bravery. Mr. Mathson received a commendation letter personally awarded by the Secretary of the Navy. He married Lillian Sutton on Feb. 21, 1976, in Fritch. They lived their whole life in Amarillo for 31 years. He was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Patty Green and husband Jerry; four sons, Scott Mathson and wife Staci, Doug Mathson and wife Kim, Frank Mathson and wife Helen and Les Mathson and wife Melanie; two stepchildren, Charles Sutton and wife Oleta and Tommy Sutton and wife Mike; a brother; two sisters; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Rev. Ruby M. (Manaw) Patton The Rev. Ruby M. (Manaw) Patton, 89, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Patton was born in Plainview and moved to Amarillo in 1959 from California, where she pastored four different churches. She had been a member of Harvest Time Pentecostal Church of God for the last seven years and had been a licensed minister with the Pentecostal Church of God since 1950. Mrs. Patton and her husband, Curly, built and founded Pleasant Valley Pentecostal Church of God and pastored there for eight years. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Curly Patton, on April 2, 1999. Survivors include a son, Bobby D. Patton and wife Connie of Amarillo; two daughters, Joan Tracy and husband Johnny of Amarillo and Joy Losh of Oklahoma City; a brother, Ted Seal of Happy; three sisters, Olga Jo Tripp of Spring Branch, Ruth Baker of Houma, La., and Arlene Newman of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Watson was born April 2, 1921, in Hedley to Beatrice and Joshua Jennings. She married Hugh "Wesley" Watson on Jan. 21, 1940. They moved to Amarillo in 1941, where they lived together until his death in 1998, just prior to their 59th wedding anniversary. She was a homemaker for the majority of their marriage and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She always had her famous homemade chocolate chip cookies in ample supply for all who entered her home. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Viown Winn, Mildred Fontenot and Wanda Coots; and two brothers, W.D. "Dub" Jennings and Harry Jennings. Survivors include a daughter, Gwendolyn G. Watson of Amarillo; a son, Garry Watson and wife Jami of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Kimberly Cross and husband Bobby of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandsons, David H. Watson of Amarillo, Michael J. She was preceded in death by two sons, Troy Bynum in 1993, and Shady Bynum in 2002; two brothers, Ralph and Roy Scott; and a sister, Louella Thomas, who had raised her after the death of her mother. She was a staunch supporter of the Amarillo Sandies. In 1976, she built a 12-foot-high, 200-lb. papier mache Golden Sandstorm, displayed at the senior all-night party, complete with diploma and cap. She was an avid gardener, loved holidays and family get-togethers. Marian worked as a bookkeeper and accountant for community businesses. She was an active member of Young Republicans and Home Builders Class at Polk Street United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Max Reed Humphreys, on Nov. 29, 2006.
