Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Shiloh Cathedral of Praise with the Rev. B.F. Roberts, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Velinda Ann Hood was born Sept. 20, 1955, in Amarillo to Ray and Florida Hopson. She attended Amarillo public schools and graduated from Palo Duro High School. She also graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor's degree. For several years she taught in the Amarillo public school system. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paris Hood; her father; two brothers, Lawrence Hopson and Jerry Hopson; and a sister, Melba Hopson. Survivors include two daughters, Stacy Smith and LaToya Hood, both of Amarillo; her mother; two brothers, Jimmy Ray Hopson and Perry Hopson, both of Amarillo; and a number of nieces, nephews and relatives. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lucille Harley Stowers Lucille Harley Stowers, 90, of Amarillo died Friday, March 2, 2007. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Burial will be in Bovina Cemetery in Bovina. Lucille Harley Stowers, daughter of Mathew Jacob Harley and Dora E. Kidd Harley, was born July 5, 1916, in Waco. Lucille had one sister, Pauline Brock of Lubbock and Ruth, Bessie and Bryant who preceded her in death. Lucille graduated from West High School in West. Lucille was married on Dec. 29, 1937, to A.D. Stowers, who preceded her in death on March 24, 1966. They moved to Friona and farmed at Hub where they raised their family. Lucille moved to Amarillo in 1970, where she worked at NWTH and St. Anthony's Hospital as a nurse's aide and then as a central supply aide. She retired in 1976. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo and volunteered at the Buchanan Street Mission. She lived the last four years of her life with her son, Larry, and his wife, Karen. Lucille was a very loving mother and will be missed greatly by her family, but has now gone to heaven to be with her husband and her Heavenly Father. Survivors include Carolyn Bralley-Rainey and husband Terry of Amarillo, Gaylord A. Stowers of Friona, Joyce A. Read and husband Billy Don of Bovina, Larry T. Stowers and wife Karen of Amarillo and Sharon Diane Talley and husband John of Longview. Lucille had 15 grandchildren; 23 great- grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Lytle married Albert Lytle on Nov. 2, 1941, in Haskell and they were happily married for 65 years. She was a member of Arden Road Baptist Church. She was devoted to her husband and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law Graham Sheffy in 2006. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dennis Lytle and wife Barbara and Jerry Lytle and wife Judianne, all of Amarillo; a daughter, Karen Sheffy of College Station; three sisters, Grace Atchison of Haskell, Lorena Teague of Abilene and Joy Wolfengerber of Farmers Branch; seven grandchildren: and 22 great-grandchildren. Mr. Bim was born April 26, 1942, in Laverne, Minn., to O.A. and Elizabeth Myers Bim. He grew up in Bartlesville, Okla., prior to moving to Amarillo over 40 years ago. Mr. Bim worked with Acton Mechanical in the heating and air conditioning industry. He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Survivors include his wife, Anne, and her daughter, Desiree of the home: and his parents, O.A. & Betty Bim of Amarillo; a brother, Brian Bim and wife Diane of Amarillo; a nephew, Brett Bim and wife Kathryn of Wylie; and several aunts and uncles. Georgia St. Leonard John Nussbaum was born in Wichita, Kan. on Jan. 9, 1926, to Martin Peter and Christine Nath Nussbaum. He moved to Amarillo later that year when his family purchased the Amarillo Bus Company. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1944. On the day after his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served on the USS Neville and participated in 32 landings in the South Pacific. He was in Tokyo on active duty on the USS Topeka at the time of Japan's surrender in 1945. At the war's end, He returned to Amarillo and joined his family at the Amarillo Bus Company. He married Elizabeth Marie Gulde on Oct. 2, 1947. They are the parents of six sons, all of whom survive. His sons are Michael John Nussbaum and wife Joyce of Knoxville, Tenn.: Stephen Patrick Nussbaum and wife Carmelita of Tokyo, Japan; Leonard Martin Nussbaum and wife Melissa of Colorado Springs, Colo: Ralph Edward Nussbaum and wife Dona of Lubbock ; Gregory Lawrence Nussbaum and wife Patty of Santa Cruz, N.M.; and Philip Alan Nussbaum and wife Kristy of Amarillo. Mr. Nussbaum and his family opened A to Z Tire and Battery Co. in 1955. From its original Amarillo location and under Mr. Nussbaum's leadership, A to Z Tire and Battery has grown to include stores throughout Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Montana. Active in business both locally and nationally, Mr. Nussbaum organized, and for many years served as president of National Tire, a countrywide association of tire dealers. He also started Summit Tire, a national buying group, and served on the Dealers' Councils of Dayton, General and Toyo Tire Co. At home, Mr. Nussbaum served the business and church communities. He is a past president of the Amarillo Junior Chamber of Commerce, Amarillo Executive Club and Better Business Bureau. He was a long time member of the Downtown Rotary Club, as well as the Republican Party County Board. He attended numerous Republican state conventions. He is a past president of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church Parish Council and the St. Joseph's School PTA. He was a member of the Catholic Diocesan Council and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents. In addition to his wife and sons and daughters-in-law, he is survived by 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: two brothers, Arnold of Canyon, and Marvin of Broadwater, Neb.: two sisters, Lorene Darr of Las Vegas; and Lucille Wilhelm of Wichita Falls. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St., with Bob Thomas, chaplain of Odyssey Hospice, officiating and flag presentation by the DPS Honor Guard. Mr. Finstad served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was a DPS Trooper for 30 years. He was a firearms instructor, a warrants officer and was an instructor for the DPS Academy in Austin. He began his career in 1963 patrolling in Panhandle, Dumas and then Amarillo. He was appointed as a Special Texas Ranger. He retired from the Department of Public Safety in 1993. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed building doll houses. He was a beloved father of four, grandfather of 13, and great-grandfather of six and a half. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Donna Ireland and husband Dale of Dumas and Jackie Bledsoe and husband Steven of Amarillo; two sons, Ray Finstad Jr. and wife Laura of Anna, Ill., and Doyle Finstad and wife Ambra of Altus, Okla.; a sister, Beatrice Finstad of Fort Worth; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Hopps, Ph.D., 72, of Amarillo died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, in Newport Beach, Calif. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Dr. Hopps married Dorothy Galbreath on Sept. 1, 1983, in Amarillo. Harvey received a B.A. from Occidental College in 1956, an M.S. from University of Arizona in 1958 and a Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1962. After spending one year as a postdoctoral scientist at New York University, Harvey joined Aldrich Chemical Co. Harvey was hired as one of the first R&D leaders. He became technical services manager in 1969. Aldrich formed the Aldrich-Boranes and he became manager of this section in 1972. Harvey and his group worked on R&D projects under contracts with major pharmaceutical companies. Harvey was responsible for the publication of the Aldrich catalog and oversaw the production of the first catalog/handbook. This was the first chemical catalog that contained physical properties and other useful information about the chemical products. Harvey left Aldrich in 1981 and joined Fumico, a small company in Amarillo that was packaging HCN, a highly toxic gas, and Fumico became the exclusive supplier of this reagent for Aldrich. Harvey served as head of chemistry until he joined Amarillo College in 1996 as an instructor in the Physical Science Department, where he taught organic chemistry until his retirement in 2005. Harvey was an active member of the American Chemical Society for 50 years - spearheading many projects. He was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed tying flies. Harvey was an active member and elder of First Presbyterian Church, where he worked as a leader in Stephen Ministries and in the Missions for Belize. Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Dottie; his children, Brian Hopps of Minneapolis, Laura Linder of Rochester, N.Y., Ahava Brooke of San Diego, Dr. Carin Hopps of Lambertsville, Mich., and extended family, Sharon Galbreath/Henderson and Michael Galbreat, both of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Patricia Carlson of Pomona, Calif.,; and four grandchildren. Georgia St. Mr. McCarty was born Nov. 1, 1930, in San Antonio to Clarence Lawrence and Vivian Zinsmeyer McCarty. He entered Texas Tech in 1948, leaving college to serve in U.S. Navy in Korea on the USS Antietam. After the war he returned to Tech, graduating in 1955. While at Tech he served as president for the Rodeo Club. Shortly after gradation he joined the USDA where he served in Chicago, Kansas City, Ogden, Utah, West Fargo, N.D., Clovis, N.M., and Amarillo. He married Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Holden on May 9, 1959, in Kansas City, Kan. After retiring from 35 years with USDA, he worked as a market analyst for the Texas Cattle Feeders Association. He was a founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, a past member of Tascosa Country Club and won the North Dakota State Trap Shooting Championship. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elizabeth Ann "Betty" McCarty, on Sept. 23, 2001; and a brother, Bobby McCarty. Survivors include three daughters, Kelly Talkington of Amarillo, Kathy McCarty of Canon City, Colo., and Susie Kimble of Las Cruces, N.M.; a son, Patrick McCarty of Amarillo; and a brother, Pat McCarty of San Antonio. Nancy Lee was born April 27, 1912, to Marshall Marion Caudell and Maggie Burt Caudell in Blair, Okla. She married W.E. "Dick" Lee on Feb. 5, 1930, in Mangum, Okla. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Canyon. Nancy was a true southern gracious lady. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 8, 1998; and a son, Jim Lee, in 2006. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers of Vega. Marie was born Aug. 17, 1925, to George and Ada Herron in Houston, where as a young girl she sang in the choir at First United Methodist Church. Music was important throughout her life and she played the piano at Adrian United Methodist Church. She married Fred Harwood on Feb. 8, 1947, in Canyon. She was a Christian, caring woman who always put others ahead of herself. Her children were her "life's work" and she was very proud of all of them. She was an avid reader and had a wonderful sense of humor. The family dinner table was always a place of much discussion and laughter. Sunday dinners were special occasions and mother invariably fixed a roast with all the trimmings. Material things were not important to mother. Relationships and love of her fellow human beings were the things which meant the most to her. She was a member of Adrian United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, John Harwood, in 1991. Lois was born Nov. 23, 1914, in Boulder, Colo., to Herbert and Nancy Noble McCaslin. Lois married William Jackson "Jack" Gililland on Feb. 5, 1943, in Canyon. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She taught school for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Deaf Smith County Historical Society, Bayview Study Club, DAR and executive director of the Deaf Smith County Museum for many years. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Deanie was born March 19, 1931, in Sasakwa, Okla., to the late John Frank Robb and Ophelia Taylor Robb. She attended schools in Sasakwa and graduated high school in Cement, Okla. She moved to Wheeler in 1964 from Canadian and returned to Canadian in 1974. Deanie married O.L. "Woody" Wood on June 8, 1946, in Anadarko, Okla. He preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 1996. She was a homemaker, but also owned and operated Quick Stop, a consignment shop, and worked as a clerk at the Grocery Store and True Value in Canadian. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Deanie was also preceded in death by a brother, Gene Robb. Spencer of Niantic, Conn. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Robert L. Clinton LAKEWAY - Robert L. Clinton, 83, died Thursday, March 1, 2007. Mr. Clinton was born Nov. 23, 1923, in Putnam to Robert Lovett Clinton and Eva Frances Clinton. He had a brother, David Park Clinton. He married Wanda Lowry on Oct. 14, 1944, in Abilene. They have three sons, Robert Lowry Clinton of Pinckneyville, Ill., David Reagan Clinton of Austin and Ronald Dale Clinton of Pittsburg. Dr. Clinton is a graduate of Putnam High School and holds bachelor's and master's degrees in music from North Texas State University and a doctorate from Texas Tech University. During World War II, he served in the U.S. 9th Air Force, flying P47s with the 404th Fighter Wing in Europe. His professional career began at Cisco Junior College, where he established the first music program in the college. After moving to Snyder in 1953 as high school choir director and director of the music programs in the elementary schools, he remained to become principal of the high school and superintendent of the Snyder Independent School District. In 1967, Dr. Clinton moved to Austin, where he joined the Texas College Coordinating Board as assistant commissioner for the development of community colleges in the state. In 1970, he moved back to Snyder to become the founding and first president of the newly established Western Texas College. During these years, he served in many civic capacities in Snyder. After serving 11 years as president of the college, he returned to Austin to become executive director of the Texas Public Community College Association. After retirement in 1987, he served twice as interim president of Amarillo College. In addition to his long and distinguished career in education, he served as music director for five churches, one being The Lakeway Church. Dr. Clinton gave joy to untold numbers people through his solo singing in many different venues. He enjoyed many interests: golfing, photography, reading and traveling in the motor home. His greatest joy was his family. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert Lowry and wife MargaretAnne, David Reagan and wife Patty and Ronald and wife Betty; six grandchildren, Amy Muldoon, Gina McFarlen, Becky Briseno, Winter Hall, Evan Clinton and Tucker Clinton; and five great-grandchildren.
