A private service will be held in Bovina Cemetery with Haden Walling, her son- in-law, officiating. Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home of Muleshoe. Mrs. Harbison moved to Bovina in 1956 from Edcouch. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Billy Harbison; three daughters, Brenda Kirpatrick and Lou Ann Walling, both of Bovina, and Joyce Kube of Texico, N.M.; two sisters, Faye Davis and Shirley Kenney; four brothers, William Burkett and Woodrow Burkett, both of Dallas, and Jimmy Burkett and David Burkett, both of Austin; and six grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jerry J. Gilleland PLAINVIEW - Jerry J. Gilleland, 71, of Plainview died Saturday, March 3. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in College Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Travis Hart officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Bartley Funeral Home. Mr. Gilleland was born Aug. 21, 1935, in Glenrose to Jess and Mary Gilleland. He married Dovie Ann King on April 27, 1957, in Kress. He came to Plainview the summer after high school. He worked for Cooper Ponatic and then for Southwestern Public Service/Excel Energies from 1960 to the time of his passing. He served in the United States Military for three years. He was stationed at Fort Benning, Ga., Korea, Fort Hood and Fort Polk. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Three of the greatest loves of his life were his family, granddaughters and the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Dovie; a son, Matt Gilleland and wife Torrie; a daughter, Leslie Hartline and husband Jimmy; four granddaughters, Lauren, Caitlyn and Michaila Gilleland and Megan Hartline; and two sisters, Ann Daniel of Glen Rose and Janie Lawson of Burleson. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Lazbuddie Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Stribling officiating. Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. McBroom was born Aug. 26, 1942, in Canyon. He married Darla Newberry in Enid, Okla., on Dec. 29, 1962. Okie had lived in the Lazbuddie community since 1976, moving from Hereford. He was active in the Lazbuddie Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years, serving as the secretary-treasurer for the last 15 years. He was also a Boy Scout Troop leader for a while. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He was employed by Foster Fertilizer and was a welder-blacksmith in his spare time. Okie was a member of the Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Troy Lane McBroom in 1995; and two brothers. Mrs. Johnson was born Dec. 20, 1943, in Greenville and has lived in the area since 1979. She married Dale Johnson in Rockwall. She was the office manager, receptionist and dental assistant for her husband. While in Greenville, she was president of the junior league, president of Beta Sigma Phi, president of the PTA and was president of the bowling league. While in Perryton she was president of Phi Lambda and president of Jennie June. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Perryton. She was preceded in death by her father, Billy John Erwin. "Wayne" Mcneill HAPPY - R.W. "Wayne" Mcneill, 90, died Monday, March 5, 2007, in Amarillo. "Wayne" McNeill was born May 11, 1916, in Electra. He has been a resident of Armstrong County since 1929, where he farmed and ranched. He married Geneva Broom in Quanah on Sept. 22, 1940. She preceded him in death on Nov. 6, 2006. He was an avid hunter, a master wood worker, and a great story teller. He loved his family and entertaining family and friends. He was a member of the University Church of Christ. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Camille Rhodes, in 2005; and a son, John McNeill, in 2004. She married Warren D. Finney on Oct. 3, 1937, in Oblong. He preceded her in death in 1985. She had been a resident of Pampa since 1954. She was a former member of the Seeds Chapel Methodist Church in Oblong, and was a current member of the Highland Baptist Church and the Esther Sunday School Class in Pampa. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Dalhart Country Club with George Chambers, pastor of Lakeview United Methodist Church, officiating. Howard Austin Rigg was born Sept. 28, 1937, in Texhoma, Okla., to Clarence and Edna Fitzgerald Rigg. Raised in the Panhandle area, he graduated from Guymon High School and attended Panhandle A&M. He married Patricia Tighe on Oct. 29, 1958, in East Moline, Ill. They moved to Dalhart from Herington, Kan., in 1982. Howard worked for the Railroad for 42 years and retired from the Union Pacific RR in 1999. While with the Railroad, he was a member of the United Transportation Union and serviced as a local Chairman over a period of 30 years. An avid golfer, he has logged two "hole in ones." Howard also enjoyed bowling, fishing and playing poker (he was after all "Kid Lucky"). He also worked part time as a field representative for Provost-Umphrey attorneys based in Houston. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife, Pat Rigg; two daughters, JoeAnn Moore and husband Rick of Dalhart and Cynthia Flynn and husband Kevin of Abilene, Kan.; a son, J.R. Mrs. Reyna was born May 15, 1909, in Mexico. She married Froilan Reyna in Mission in 1923. Burial will follow in Rowe Cemetery in Hedley by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Blackwell was born May 2, 1941, to Jerry William and Alma Blackwell, in Carmen, Okla. He attended school there and later joined the U.S. Air Force until his honorable discharge in February 1962. He married the love of his life, Judie C. Cook, on July 28, 1984, in Pampa. They moved to Amarillo in June of 1988 and have resided here ever since. Jerry spent most of his life in the printing and office supply business, and was the general manager of Amarillo Litho. He was passionate about fishing, enjoyed cooking for his friends, and loved playing Dominoes. Jerry was known to many as the "Grill Man." For the last few years, he had begun to study about his Cherokee Indian Heritage in Oklahoma. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and co-workers. Jerry thought of his employees as extended family. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Danielle Devenney and husband Joey of Amarillo; two sons, Jay R. Pat Cunningham, 84, of Amarillo died Monday, March 5, 2007. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Andrews Episcopal Church with the Rev. Clifton Mann officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Cunningham was born in El Paso to Grover Patrick and Ala Mae Cunningham. He moved to Amarillo when he was a young boy and attended Amarillo public schools. He enrolled at Texas Military College in Terrell in 1936. He entered TMC in the seventh grade and was later president and salutatorian of his senior class. He attended Texas Tech University from 1940-1943 and entered the United States Marines in 1943. He served in the Pacific Theatre in WW II. He married Eleanor Kellams on Jan. 13, 1940. After the war, he returned to Amarillo and worked in road construction for Pete Gilvin and later for Crowe- Gulde Cement and Builder Supply. He served as Potter County Commissioner from 1981 until 1989 and was involved in commercial Real Estate until his retirement. Pat was deeply involved in his community for many years. He was a member and board member of the Exchange Club and was a member of the Downtown Amarillo Kiwanis Club, where he served as President and District Governor. Pat was an avid Texas Tech Red Raider fan and supporter, holding membership in both the Red Raider Club and the Texas Tech Alumni Assoc. for over sixty years. He was Chairman of the annual Amarillo Red Raider Club Golf Tournament for over 25 years in the 1960's - 1980's. He was "roasted" by the Amarillo Red Raider Club Chapter in 1996 to honor his many years of support for Texas Tech Athletics. All three of his children and five of his seven grandchildren attended Texas Tech. The Texas legislative bill that created Texas Technological College was signed by Gov. Pat Neff on Feb. 10, 1923. He was often fond of saying " Two great things happened on Feb. 10, 1923. Texas Tech was created and I was born." He was a 50 year member of the San Jacinto Masonic Lodge, ElPaso Scottish Rite and the Khiva Shrine. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal for fifty years. Military detail will be provided by the Blue Knights Honor Guard of Altus Air Force Base in Altus, Okla. Mr. Edwards served proudly in the US Air Force for 21 years. He was an avid fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks, Atlanta Braves, and Palo Duro High School. He coached for Kids Incorporated. He loved sports in general. His favorite pastime was watching western movies. He loved to tell stories about his childhood and his growing up years. He remembered all of their names and their antics. He would tell them to anyone that would listen. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and two sisters. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter St., with Donna Johnston of BSA Hospice officiating. Mr. Davis was born in Amarillo. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1970. After high school, he worked for the Rock Island Railroad until their closure. He also worked for Santa Fe Railway. In 1984, he began working at Pantex. At the time of his death he was working as the section manager in shipping and receiving. Mr. Davis loved bowling and playing golf. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He married Jannell Davis in 1972 at Amarillo. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Fletcher was born in New Boston. He moved to Amarillo in 1954 from San Diego, Calif. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Fletcher worked at the Texaco Refinery in Amarillo for 30 years and retired in 1985. After his retirement, he enjoyed wood carving and was an avid fisherman. He married Reba O'Hair on March 6, 1953, at San Diego. He was a member of Bolton Street Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Debbie Service of Houston; two sons, James Fletcher and Dwayne Fletcher, both of Amarillo; a sister, Wanda Sue Major of Lake Tanglewood; a brother, Kenneth Fletcher of Lake Tanglewood; and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Quail Cemetery. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Jim TenEyck Pickens ABILENE - Jim TenEyck Pickens, 80, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, in Dallas. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Carleton Chapel in the Garrison Student Center at McMurry University. Arrangements are by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Jim Pickens was born June 11, 1926, in Dallas to the Rev. Finus Roden Pickens and Vera Coston Pickens. The son of a Methodist pastor, he spent much of his childhood moving with his family to various churches in West Texas. He graduated from high school in Shamrock in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. During WW II, he served in the Pacific, the Philippines, and then in Japan. He returned to McMurry College in Abilene, and graduated in 1948. Jim attended seminary at Perkins School of Theology at SMU in Dallas and graduated in 1952. He was ordained a Deacon in the Northwest Texas Conference in 1951, and ordained an Elder in 1954. Jim married Mary Ann McCollum on July 11, 1953, in McCaulley. He brought his bride to Canyon, where he served as the director of the Wesley Foundation at West Texas State University from 1952-1954. The Rev. and Mrs. Pickens served First United Methodist Church in Vega from 1954 to 1957, and then returned to Abilene, where he served as the Minister to the College at McMurry University from 1958 to 1968. He took a sabbatical from 1960 - 1964, to pursue graduate work at Emory University in Atlanta, from which he received his MA in 1973. Larissa Ann Pickens was received into the family in 1964, and James McCollum Pickens joined the family in 1967. In 1968, the Pickens family moved to the loving arms of the First United Methodist Church in Dimmitt until 1972. From 1972-1973, Rev. Pickens served Forest Heights Methodist Church in Lubbock. He acted as district superintendent for the Seymour district from 1973-1975 and for the Abilene district from 1976-1977. He received his Honorary Doctor of Divinity from McMurry University on May 7, 1978. From 1977-1979, Dr. Pickens served First Methodist Church in Pampa. He served St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Amarillo from 1979-1982, St. Paul United Methodist Church in Albuquerque, N.M., from 1982-1986, and First United Methodist Church in Dumas from 1986-1993. He retired from active pastoral service in 1993, and moved with his wife to Albuquerque, where he served as chaplain at La Vida Llena Retirement Community until 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Larissa Pickens Carroll and husband Steve Carroll; a son, James Pickens and wife Laura Pickens; and three grandchildren, Chloe Carroll and Hunter and McKenzie Pickens.
