Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard K. Batson, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. John was born Aug. 21, 1948, in Fort Worth, was raised there and was a graduate of Haltom High School. He was a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington and also attended Texas A&M University. He married Paula Ledbetter on June 28, 1968, in Fort Worth. He moved to Amarillo in 1980 from Wichita Falls. He was a safety engineer for Diamond Shamrock and worked offshore for Safety International. He worked as an independent agent and sold life and health insurance. His last position was with Dynaten, where he worked as an estimator. He was an avid sports fan and was a baseball umpire for high school, college and professional leagues for 30 years. He also officiated for high school football and basketball. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and taught seventh-grade Sunday school for 14 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Maurine Breeding. Survivors include his wife, Paula; three sons, John Breeding Jr. and wife Ginger of Colorado Springs, Colo., Greg Breeding and wife Jamie and Ryan Breeding and wife Savana, all of Amarillo; and a grandson, James Lee Breeding of Colorado Springs. "Bill" Hollan, 85, of Amarillo died Monday, March 12, 2007. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. Andrew Jackson of West Irving Church in Irving officiating. Private burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Hollan was born Aug. 5, 1921, in Los Angeles. He married Melva Jeanne Thurman on Friday, July 13, 1951, in Dallas. He moved to Amarillo with his wife and children in 1964. Mr. Hollan was a veteran of World War II. He enlisted in the 1st Calvary Division in May 1940 and was honorably discharged as a master sergeant in the Army Air Force in October 1945. He served in the American defense theater of operation. Mr. Hollan retired as vice president of transportation for Producers Grain Corp. in 1982. He became a 32nd Degree Mason in 1956 and was a former member of the Khiva Temple Clown Unit in Amarillo. He was a member of the National Defense Executive Reserve for many years prior to retirement in 1982. He was member emeritus in the American Society of Transportation and Logistics Inc. and was active in various trade organizations, among which were National Industrial Traffic League (legislative committee); Southwest Industrial Traffic League (director); Texas Industrial Traffic League (officer and director); Texas Grain and Feed Assn. (chairman-traffic committee); Southwest Shippers advisory board. Mr. Hollan was a Presbyterian. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne, on Dec. 11, 2004. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Hollan of Atlanta; a son, Terry Hollan and wife Cheryl of Amarillo; and a granddaughter, Madison Renee Hollan of Amarillo. "Gene" Hughs Memphis - L.E. "Gene" Hughs, 88, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Memphis Church of Christ with Tom Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis by Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis. Gene was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Memphis to the late James Emery Hughs and Odie Belle Stephenson Hughs. He was a 1936 graduate of Memphis High School. He married Alma Sweatt on Nov. 5, 1942. Mr. Hughs was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he was an anti-aircraft mechanic, serving from 1943 until 1946 during World War II. He owned and operated Hughs Battery and Electric Service in Memphis for 33 years. Upon his retirement in 1972, he continued to work as a farmer and rancher. He was a longtime member of Memphis Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a brother, J.E. Hughs Jr.; and a sister, Beatrice Patrick.
