Everett was born on his parents' farm north of Weatherford on Oct. 4, 1910, the eldest son of Almon and Annie Roske Kaiser and passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2007, in Amarillo, Texas. The family had settled in the Oklahoma Territory before statehood. Everett and his father milked 30 cows twice daily in the days before milking machines and when milk was home delivered in town. The family farmed with horses until the early 1930s when on the same day, Everett's father and five of his father's brothers all purchased six of Custer County's first tractors from Harris Hardware. At Weatherford High School, Everett sang in the choir, was on the wrestling and basketball teams, and was captain of the 1928 football team which went undefeated except for a 6-0 loss to archrival, Clinton. After graduation, he attended Southwestern State College (now SWOSU) where he was a four-year varsity football letterman and played saxophone in the school orchestra. He was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard for two years. After attending Southwestern, he transferred to Oklahoma A&M (now OSU) and received his B.S. degree in agriculture there in 1935. He then did post- graduate study at Texas Tech University and Colorado State University. On the tennis courts at Southwestern, Everett met fellow student Margaret O. Stambaugh, daughter of Marie and Roland Stambaugh of Thomas. They were married at her parents' home in 1934, and they remained completely devoted to each other for more than 70 years until her death in 2005. Everett Kaiser began his career in 1937 as a vocational agricultural instructor and high school football coach in Des Moines, N.M. He then joined the Farm Security Administration and served as a county supervisor in Clovis and Roy, N.M. The Kaisers returned to Weatherford in 1940 to farm and build a new home and raise their family. While farming, Everett worked part-time for the Veterans Administration, teaching agriculture to veterans returning from World War II, and he worked as a substitute rural mail carrier. He was a member of the Western Star Masonic Lodge. In 1956, the Kaisers moved back to New Mexico where Everett was employed by the Farm Home Administration as a county supervisor in Estancia, Tucumcari and Las Cruces. He also worked as a loan examiner with the Bureau of Indian Affairs on the Navajo Reservation at Shiprock. The Kaisers then returned to Weatherford in 1959 and developed, from part of their farm, the housing addition north of town known as the Grandview Addition. Mr. Kaiser then began a new career in 1961 as a real estate appraiser with the Army Corps of Engineers. This work took him and Margaret O. to DeQueen, Ark., Emporia, Kan., and Sand Springs, Muskogee and Ponca City in Oklahoma. He retired in 1969 in Ponca City, and they continued to live there until they moved to Amarillo for health reasons in December 2004. Everett had a lifelong interest in bird and big game hunting and enjoyed his bird dogs. He was a member of the NRA, the VFW Trap Shooting Club, the Tonkawa Gun Club and the Amateur Trap Shooters' Association, winning many trophies in competition. He liked listening to recording of German and Irish music and was know for his great sense of humor and his love of cigars. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret O. Kaiser; two brothers, Gordon and Rolland Kaiser; and a great-grandson. Survivors include a son, Vaughn Kaiser and wife Sallie of Portland, Ore.; two daughters, Ann Kaiser Stearns of Baltimore, Md., and Pansy Lansberry of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Gary Kaiser, Karen Dellinger, Amanda Asha Stearns, Ashley Anjali Stearns, James Russell "Rusty" Massey and Sandra Massey Youngblood; five great-grandchildren, Hannah Kaiser, Katelyn Kaiser, Jake Dellinger, Clay Youngblood and Elizabeth Youngblood; a sister-in-law, Norma Kaiser; a niece, Kay Kaiser Burtis; and two cousins, Arnold Kaiser and LaVern Trotter. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Services Services Pending Phillip Michael Arthur, 64, of Lubbock died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007.
