Mr. Dominguez was born June 7, 1963, in Clovis, N.M., to Jerry and Mary Dominguez. He served in the U.S. National Guard and worked as a security guard for All-American International Security in Amarillo. He also worked in construction as a concrete mason. Survivors include two sons, Anthony and Eric, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; three daughters, Antonette of Albuquerque, Quila of Pampa and Elisa of Clovis; his father, Jerry Dominguez of Pampa; five brothers, Jimmy Aragon of Virginia, Jerry Dominguez Jr. of Clovis, Tommy Dominguez of Houston, Frank Dominguez of Spearman and Johnny Dominguez of Amarillo; four sisters, Charlene Martinez of Pampa, and Loraine Cereceres, Joan Dominguez and Nora Dominguez, all of Albuquerque; and various nephews and nieces. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dorothy "Dot" Carney Dorothy "Dot" Carney, 74, of Amarillo died Friday, March 23, 2007. No services will be held. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Dennis was born Oct. 27, 1924, in Bridgeport, Okla., to Robert and Mildred Chance. She married Charles Dennis in 1947 in Amarillo. He passed away in 1977. She was a secretary at San Antonio College for 18 years. She had been a resident of Amarillo since 1990. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a son, Kevin Dennis in 1991. Survivors include a daughter, Melissa Dennis of Amarillo; a sister, Margaret Dietrick of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. Private burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Rahlfs was born July 7, 1948, in Canyon to Betty McManigal and O.H. Rahlfs. He resided in Canyon from 1976 to 1998. He graduated from Happy High School in 1966 and received his B.S. degree from West Texas State University in 1970. He was employed as a senior vice president at Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith for 34 years. He was involved in youth sports in Canyon, including coaching and serving as a board member of Canyon Soccer Association, Canyon Baseball Association and Canyon Basketball Association. He was an avid supporter of Canyon Eagle and Lady Eagle athletics. He served as elder and deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Canyon. He served on the Canyon City Commission from 1984 to 1988 and served as a member of the Canyon School Board from 1990 to 1995. Mr. Rahlfs was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo. He married Penny Shewbert on Dec. 30, 1970. John James Vandale, USNR Retired, 91, of Amarillo died Thursday, March 22, 2007. Services with military honors will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Vandale was born Sept. 12, 1915, in Charleston, W. Va., to Earl Vandale and Grace Burke Vandale. After his mother's death in 1920, he moved to Amarillo in 1924 with his father and stepmother, Vada Davis Vandale. John graduated from Amarillo High School in 1932 and attended Amarillo College and the University of Texas in Austin. He graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1937 and did graduate study at the University of Texas. He was an active landman in the oil and gas industry in Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi and Alabama until 1941 when he joined the Navy. During World War II, he had command of two ships, an armed trawler, the USS Storm, and the USS Pastores (AF-16). He served in both the Pacific and European Theaters of War. Following the war, Capt. Vandale returned to Amarillo and became the first commanding officer of the Naval Reserve Training Center. He later served in the office of the chief of Naval operations at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. From 1954 to 1956, Capt. Vandale was executive officer of the USS Wyandot (AKA-92). During this tour of duty, he participated in "Operation Deepfreeze I," an exploratory mission in the Antarctic, which was Admiral Richard E. Byrd's last Antarctic journey. This assignment was followed by a tour of duty in the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington, D.C., as head of field liaison for Navy Recruiting Service. In 1959, Capt. Vandale assumed command of the oceanographic survey ship USS San Pablo (AGS-30), operating in the Caribbean, North Atlantic and Greenland. Subsequently, he was assigned to the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington, D.C. From 1962 to 1963, he commanded Destroyer Squadron 34, headquartered in Charleston, S.C. This squadron consisted of 13 ships operating in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Mediterranean. The Cuban missile crisis occurred during this time. In 1963, Capt. Vandale was stationed in Omaha, Neb., where he served as staff commander of the Naval Reserve Training Center until 1966, when he returned to Washington, D.C., as the head of logistics for the Bureau of Naval Personnel. He served from 1969 to 1972 as deputy chief of staff for Naval Reserve at the Eleventh Naval District, San Diego. Captain Vandale retired in 1972, after 31 years of active duty in the Navy. He served during World War II and Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He received many decorations and medals, including the Legion of Merit Order. In 1973, he returned to the Panhandle and the oil and gas business. In 1995, the new reserve training center on Tee Anchor Boulevard was named "The John J. Vandale U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Training Center." He was an honorary life member of the Texas State Historical Society, a life member of the Panhandle Plains Historical Society and a fellow of Explorers Club of New York. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Sons of the American Revolution, Reserve Officers Association, Naval Reserve Association and the Navy League. On March 2, 1985, he married Sally Dawson, who predeceased him on June 28, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother and his father, who was a pioneer landman in the oil and gas industry and a noted collector of rare books. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Lawrence Cathedral with the Rev. Gabriel Cardiel officiating. Mr. Lizama was born Nov. 11, 1921, to Jose Garrido and Ana Lizama Garrido in Agana, Guam. He graduated from George Washington High School in Agana and later earned his associate degree in aviation mechanics from San Diego City College. Ted traveled all over the world during World War II and the Vietnam War while working as an aviation mechanic. He married Doan Thi Ket in Vietnam in 1968, and their first two sons Peter and John were born there. They later came to the United States and lived in Los Angeles, where Ted was employed as a body guard in the movie industry. He and his family have lived in Amarillo for more than 30 years, and his sons Paul and Richard were both born here. Mr. Lizama was employed by Bell Helicopter for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, John Garrido in 2005. Survivors include his wife Doan, three sons, Peter Lizama Garrido and wife Virginia and Paul Lizama, all of Amarillo, and Richard Lizama of San Marcos; a daughter-in-law, Melody Garrido of Amarillo; and four grandchildren, Xavier Garrido, Gabriel Garrido, Jaymarie Lizama and William Garrido, all of Amarillo. Mrs. McDonald died March 24 after an extended illness. She was born Aug. 15, 1936, in Helena, Ark., to the late Phillip Gayarre and Virgie Gayarre. She married Wilton E. McDonald on Dec. 23, 1954, in Amarillo. She attended West Texas State University and graduated with a B.A. in elementary education in December 1970. Over the next 25 years, she taught school in Amarillo ISD, Springlake ISD, Littlefield ISD and Lubbock ISD. She retired from Dupree Elementary School in Lubbock on Dec. 22, 1994. Mrs. Clark was born Sept. 14, 1908, to Alice Mae and P.M. "Jack" Wilson. She graduated from Canyon High School and from West Texas State University. She married C.E. Clark on May 29, 1943. He died Oct. 23, 1983. Allie was office manager for the ASCS in Canyon for many years. The family would also like to thank her caregivers. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Braafladt officiating. Burial will be in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Mrs. Braafladt was born March 4, 1913, in Oil Hill, Kan. She was an accomplished singer, accompanist, organist, composer and artist. She attended Eldorado High School, graduating in 1930, and was in the National High School Choir that toured the United States and sang at the Capitol. She attended Wichita State. She moved to Amarillo in 1931 and attended Amarillo College as a music major and was a member of Balladettes and Balladors and Kappa Delta Chi. She sang on the radio through KGNC of Amarillo and was voted "Best New Up and Coming Vocalist." Mrs. Braafladt moved to San Francisco, tried out for Warner Studios and sang on NBC radio. She met Louis Chester Braafladt while there and they married in 1937. They had one son, Rex Louis, in 1941 who died three days later. They had another son, Charles Chester, in 1942. They moved home to Amarillo in 1946 while Chet was in the Army. Mrs. Braafladt was member of the "Chaunstinets" during the war singing at USO events. She became a member and organist of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, and was a member of Junior Travel Study Club of Amarillo. They had two daughters, Joan Alice, in 1951 and Jill Elyse in 1953. The family moved to Dimmitt in 1962, where she became a member and organist of First Presbyterian Church of Dimmitt. She was active in many follies, teaching voice lessons, adult and children's choir directing and ROW. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Chester; a brother, Rex Galloup, in 2000; and her husband, Louis Chester, in 2003. Survivors include two daughters, Joan Craig and husband Randall of Austin and Jill McLean and husband Charles of Dimmitt; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Braafladt of Amarillo; eight grandchildren, Todd Braafladt, Tiffany Braafladt- Bale, Christian Braafladt, Chip Thrasher, Phil Thrasher, Paul Craig, Summer McLean and Cassie Lyon; four great-grandchildren; and her faithful caregiver, Gloria Montoya. Mrs. Dalton owned and operated several restaurants. She had been a Borger resident for 60 years, coming from Oklahoma. Mr. Fowler was born Feb. 17, 1927, in Sayre, Okla., to the late Mr. John Fowler and Mrs. Ruth Garrett Fowler. He graduated from high school in Petersburg and the University of Texas in Austin with a BS in pharmacy. He worked as a registered pharmacist for 50 years and for most of his career was partner and pharmacist with his father, John, and brother, Bob, at Fowler Drug in Memphis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and an active member of First Christian Church in Memphis. He served for many years on the Memphis school board and was past president of the Memphis Lions Club, the Memphis Chamber of Commerce, the West Texas Pharmaceutical Association and the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. He also served on the board of the Red River Authority of Texas and was currently a member of the Memphis City Council. On Oct. 6, 2003, he received his 50 year Masonic pin. Memorial services with military honors will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in First Church of God in Elkhart with the Rev. Gary Murrell officiating. Arrangements are by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon. Mr. Shipp served in the Army Air Corps as a waist gunner on a B-24 making a total of 35 missions over Germany. He taught and coached in Goodwell, Texhoma and Elkhart schools for 39 years. Survivors include his wife, Lonita; a son, Gary Shipp of Lakewood, Calif.; and three sisters. Memorial celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in The Summit Church in Canyon, Texas. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon. Thelma was born Feb. 13, 1926. She graduated from high school in San Jon, N.M., and attended West Texas State College. She retired after 30 years of service with the FBI Office in Portland. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Orley, Troy, Owen and Crosby; her stepmother, Roxie; and a nephew, Ron Hammons. Survivors include her husband, Carl Mead of Lakeside; an adopted son, Dr. Gene Mead and wife Shantel; a sister, Flo Richardson and husband Thurman of Panhandle, Texas; a brother, Don Hammons and wife Vera of Lamar, Colo.; and a sister-in-law, Helen Caldwell and husband Seth of Florence. She was beloved aunt to Larry Hammons, Kenneth Hammons, Geneva Gray, Joel, Gary, Keith and Jamie Richardson, Cherie Chechourka, T.D.
