Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jim Bankhead and Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. Private burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Rahlfs was born July 7, 1948, in Canyon to Betty McManigal and O.H. Rahlfs. He resided in Canyon from 1976 to 1998. He graduated from Happy High School in 1966 and received his B.S. degree from West Texas State University in 1970. He was employed as a senior vice president at Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith for 34 years. He was involved in youth sports in Canyon, including coaching and serving as a board member of Canyon Soccer Association, Canyon Baseball Association and Canyon Basketball Association. He was an avid supporter of Canyon Eagle and Lady Eagle athletics. He served as elder and deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Canyon. He served on the Canyon City Commission from 1984 to 1988 and served as a member of the Canyon School Board from 1990 to 1995. Mr. Rahlfs was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo. He married Penny Shewbert on Dec. 30, 1970. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Dana Dutson and husband Mike of San Antonio and Robin Patterson and husband Craig of Canyon; a son, Jason Rahlfs and wife Melinda of Amarillo; his mother, Betty Rahlfs of Amarillo; a sister, Becky Grantham of Amarillo; a brother, Andy Rahlfs of Canyon; his mother-in- law, Maxine Shewbert of Dalhart; eight grandchildren, Dillon, Reagan and Riley Dutson, all of San Antonio, Reese, Ryan, Rhett and Reed Patterson, all of Canyon, and Ava Rahlfs of Amarillo; and several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Georgia St. Mrs. Pandolfi was born in Hale Center. She was raised in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1969. She graduated from Wayland Baptist College in 1987 with a B.S. degree in health care administration and a master's degree in business administration. She worked as a nursing home administrator in Lubbock in 1987 and in Throckmorton. In 1989, she moved to Amarillo and was employed as nursing home administrator at Georgia Manor. She married Gerald R. Pandolfi on May 25, 1990, in Amarillo. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lou Wanda Wylie in 1979, and a brother, Denzle Devon Wylie in 1994. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Shelly Pandolfi and Megan Pandolfi, both of Amarillo; two sons, Andrew Pandolfi of San Antonio and Ryan Pandolfi of Lewisville; her father, Denzle Price "D.P." John James Vandale Capt. John James Vandale, USNR Retired, 91, of Amarillo died Thursday, March 22, 2007. Entombment will be in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Capt. Vandale was born Sept. 12, 1915, in Charleston, W. Va., to Earl Vandale and Grace Burke Vandale. After his mother's death in 1920, he moved to Amarillo in 1924 with his father and stepmother, Vada Davis Vandale. John graduated from Amarillo High School in 1932 and attended Amarillo College and the University of Texas in Austin. He graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1937 and did graduate study at the University of Texas. He was an active landman in the oil and gas industry in Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi and Alabama until 1941 when he joined the Navy. During World War II, he had command of two ships, an armed trawler, the USS Storm, and the USS Pastores (AF-16). He served in both the Pacific and European Theaters of War. Following the war, Capt. Vandale returned to Amarillo and became the first commanding officer of the Naval Reserve Training Center. He later served in the office of the chief of Naval operations at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. From 1954 to 1956, Capt. Vandale was executive officer of the USS Wyandot (AKA-92). During this tour of duty, he participated in "Operation Deepfreeze I," an exploratory mission in the Antarctic, which was Admiral Richard E. Byrd's last Antarctic journey. This assignment was followed by a tour of duty in the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington, D.C., as head of field liaison for Navy Recruiting Service. In 1959, Capt. Vandale assumed command of the oceanographic survey ship USS San Pablo (AGS-30), operating in the Caribbean, North Atlantic and Greenland. Subsequently, he was assigned to the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington, D.C. From 1962 to 1963, he commanded Destroyer Squadron 34, headquartered in Charleston, S.C. This squadron consisted of 13 ships operating in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Mediterranean. The Cuban missile crisis occurred during this time. In 1963, Capt. Vandale was stationed in Omaha, Neb., where he served as staff commander of the Naval Reserve Training Center until 1966, when he returned to Washington, D.C., as the head of logistics for the Bureau of Naval Personnel. He served from 1969 to 1972 as deputy chief of staff for Naval Reserve at the Eleventh Naval District, San Diego. Captain Vandale retired in 1972, after 31 years of active duty in the Navy. He served during World War II and Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He received many decorations and medals, including the Legion of Merit Order. In 1973, he returned to the Panhandle and the oil and gas business. In 1995, the new reserve training center on Tee Anchor Boulevard was named "The John J. Vandale U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Training Center." He was an honorary life member of the Texas State Historical Society, a life member of the Panhandle Plains Historical Society and a fellow of Explorers Club of New York. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Sons of the American Revolution, Reserve Officers Association, Naval Reserve Association and the Navy League. On March 2, 1985, he married Sally Dawson, who predeceased him on June 28, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother and his father, who was a pioneer landman in the oil and gas industry and a noted collector of rare books. Survivors include many friends, especially Capt. Don L. Patterson, USNR Retired, and wife Dorothy; the Rev. Col., USA (Ret.) Corbitt Russell Moore Lt. Col., USA (Ret.), 86, of Canyon died Sunday, March 25, 2007, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. George's Episcopal Church. A reception will follow. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. A devoted and loving husband of 66 years, wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Russ passed away after a lengthy illness on March 25, 2007, in Amarillo. Russ was born Aug. 24, 1920, in Adel, Ga., to James and Arnette Moore. The youngest child of a family of nine, he was preceded in death by all of his brothers and sisters. An eminently kind and gentle man, Russ entered the U.S. States Army as an enlisted soldier at Fort Benning, Ga., on July 5, 1939. Soon thereafter, he met and married the love of his life, Mary Virginia Howitz, on Oct. 28, 1940. A World War II veteran, Russ saw service as a lieutenant in North Africa in 1943 and later in Italy with the 1st Tank Battalion of the 1st Armored Division. He retired from active duty as a lieutenant colonel in 1966 after nearly 27 years of honorable service to his country, which has been recognized as meritorious and exceptional. Following his retirement from the Army, Russ went to work for Standard Motor Products until his retirement in Canyon in 1990. In his later years, he took great pleasure in working in his yard and garden, reading, and watching the Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Braves. He was preceded by his beloved daughter, Sharon Agnes Moore Weaver. Survivors include his wife; son, Russell Moore and wife Rebecca and daughter, Linda Alvarado and husband Jesse; grandchildren and later adopted children, Donavan Moore and Sondra Moore; grandchildren, Rebecca Wooters, Brad Moore, Scott Weaver, Allison McDaniel, Justin Alvarado, Andrea Alvarado and Ryan Alvarado; and great-grandchildren, Nicolaas Wooters, Tyler Moore, Faith Wooters and Ashley McDaniel.
