Newton, 87, of Amarillo, died Thursday, March 29, 2007. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Llano Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Robert Ziehmer, pastor and the Rev. Marvin James, associate pastor of First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery Garden Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Newton was born May 19, 1919, in Crosbyton. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and instructed train dispatchers during the Korean conflict. He retired from the Santa Fe Railway and was a member of First Christian Church. He married Lejeune Montgomery May 10, 1984, in Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a sister-in-law, June Montgomery of Albuquerque, N.M.; three nieces, Ruth Holberg and husband Mike of Dallas, Diane Smith and husband Leon, and Janet Fowler and husband Don, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; a nephew, Don Montgomery and wife Nelda of Albuquerque; and three great-nieces, Kris Graves of Dallas, Shannon Smith and Tina Smith of Albuquerque. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Mr. Hutchinson was born July 5, 1942, in Phillips to Cymbolene and Lucian Clark Hutchinson Sr. He married Patricia Lindsey on Feb. 9, 1980, in Longview. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Shamrock Cemetery with Max McClendon, minister Shamrock Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home in Wheeler. Mr. Jolly was born Oct. 16, 1928, in Twitty to Earl D. "Jack" and Valle Clay Jolly. He graduated from Wheeler High School in 1947. He attended business school in Oklahoma City. Mr. Jolly moved to Houston for a time, then moved back to Oklahoma City where he owned a cookie business. He moved back to Shamrock in the 1980s. Mr. Jolly worked for Cantrell Oil Co. for several years in Canadian, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Church of Christ in Shamrock. He was a resident of Wheeler Care Center for the last three years. He was loved by all who knew him and he loved everybody. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother. Survivors include a brother, Earl D. Jolly and wife Shirley of Wheeler; and numerous nieces and nephews. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Artis "Babe" Singleton DALHART - Artis "Babe" Singleton, 92, died Thursday, March 29, 2007. Mrs. Singleton was born Artis Faye Blackwell on Oct. 17, 1914, to Roy and Gertrude Blackwell in Stephenville. She married Sam Singleton on Feb. 9, 1936, in Pecos. Survivors include a son, Sam Singleton Jr. of Dalhart; a daughter, Sue Ann Singleton of Wasilla, Alaska; three grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with Dr. David Lowrie, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mr. Smith was born June 25, 1915, in Illinois Bend to Albert Bishop and Mattie Lou Smith. As a young man, Charlie helped his father on the farm. On Feb. 6, 1941, Mr. Smith enlisted in the 1st Armed Division Medical Detachment of the Army. He was captured by the Germans in Tunisia, Africa, on Nov. 26. On Nov. 27, the Germans flew him to Italy. There he was put into prison in December of 1942, at Camp 59, where he was held until his escape on Dec. 5, 1943. He spent many cold nights in the mountains, hiding out, eating whatever he could find, surviving however he could. Mr. Smith was awarded a World War II Victory Medal and four other medals. He worked for Huber Carbon Black plant in Borger for years and on oil derricks for several years. He married Ruby Simon Sullivan in March 1959. They moved to Aurora, Colo., in 1962, where he worked for the city of Aurora until 1980. Upon retiring there, he returned to Canyon. They were members of First Baptist Church of Canyon. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; two brothers, Orval Smith and Newell Smith; and a sister, Edith Womble. Survivors include his wife, Ruby; a stepdaughter, Sandra Boyette and husband David; two stepsons, Philipp Sullivan and David Sullivan and wife Emily; a sister, Eunice Bentley of Houston; eight grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to the VA Hospitals or a favorite charity. Mr. White was born and raised in Dumas, Texas, the son of Glenn and Ruth Walkup White. He was a self-employed building contractor in Guymon for many years, retiring to Savannah in 1999. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Forrester was born March 11, 1922, in Everman to Andrew and Lilly May Forrester. He married Frances Shaw in Cleburne on Aug. 2, 1942. They moved to Amarillo in 1946. He was the owner and operator of the Police Station Coffee Shop for 26 years. Upon his retirement in 1983, he was the only person in the history of Amarillo to be named an honorary police officer by Chief of Police Jerry Neal. He was a member of South Lawn Baptist Church. He was a devoted Christian, the head of a large loving family, and an active advocate of conservative causes. He enjoyed gardening, writing poetry and composing songs to his beloved wife of 65 years. His dry humor, quick wit and his gift of storytelling will be missed by his family and a great host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Albert O. Forrester, in 1992 and James D. Forrester in 2006; a sister, Mildred Forrester; and four brothers, James Lee Forrester, Thomas Earl Forrester, John Forrester and Bob Forrester. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Allen H. Forrester of Cleburne, Don C. Forrester Sr., Perry T. Forrester and Steven J. Forrester Sr., all of Fredericksburg, Va.; 22 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren. Grace was born Oct. 31, 1932, in San Antonio, the daughter of the late G.G."Jerry" and Katharine Harwell. She served as adocent at the Kimbell Art Museum and was a member of The Woman's Club of Fort Worth and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Grace did volunteer work at a hospice house in Amarillo. She was an avid reader and member of the Amarillo Library Book Club as well as Thursday Bible Study. She enjoyed gardening and listening to music. Her family held a special place in her heart.
