Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with the Rev. David Waldrop of Southwest Baptist Church and the Rev. Mike Patrick of Pavillard Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Ritchie was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Roxton to W.C. and Clarice Rathburn. She married James Orsen Ritchie on Feb. 26, 1944, in Hollis, Okla. They had lived in Amarillo since 1965. She was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband; a grandson; and three great- grandsons. Survivors include six daughters, Linda Cook and husband Jerry, Neila Hanes and husband Larry, Pamela Moore and husband Don, Evie Ritchie and Delbert Webb, Judy McGuire and Karen McNabb and Mike Ivey, all of Amarillo. four sons, Jim Ritchie and wife Lola, Louis Ritchie and wife Kaylene, Ira Ritchie and wife Janice and Tom Ritchie and wife Jennifer, all of Amarillo; 29 grandchildren; and 51 great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lt. Col. James S. Shappell Lt. Col. James S. Shappell, 89, of Amarillo died Thursday, April 5, 2007. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Hillside Christian Church with the Rev. Roy Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Lt. Col. James S. Shappell was born Sept. 4, 1917, in Bartlesville, Okla. to Berdia Ann and Harry Edwin Shappell. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1940. Lt. Col. Shappell served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He established the 1st Reserve Squadron in Amarillo, and served until his retirement in 1970, as a lieutenant colonel. He was a flight instructor for Randolph Field. Mr. Shappell also established and was the owner of Shappell Vendors, as well as owning and operating several other businesses. He was a Master Mason, a Shriner and a longtime member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church, now Hillside Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Ilo Shappell, on May 24, 1995; and a brother, Nelson Shappell. Survivors include two daughters, Karen Joy Flores and husband Mike and Susan Kay Campbell and husband Scott, all of Amarillo; three grandsons, Mike Langley of Austin and Jimmy Campbell and Danny Campbell, both of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Amy Blalock and husband Erik of Amarillo; three great- grandchildren, Katelynn Tidwell of Amarillo, Angel Blalock of Amarillo, and Gabriella Cordero of Hutto; his beloved dog, Trouble; and many former loyal employees that are considered family. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Robertson Funeral Directors Chapel of Memories in Clarendon with the Rev. Bryan Knowles, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Mr. Banister was born July 18, 1932, to Fletcher Elbert and Ollie Maggie Brown Banister in Hedley. He married Leota Marshall on Jan.1, 1952, in Clarendon. He had lived in Amarillo before moving to Claude 30 years ago. He had worked for Amarillo Road Co. prior to his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Panhandle Kennel Club, French Bulldog Club of America, and a charter member of the French Bulldog Club of Dallas/Fort Worth. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Claude. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kenneth Dwight Banister on Nov. 15, 1982; three brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Denise Compton and husband David of Hurst, and Donna Banister Spohn and husband Tony of Claude; a brother, Robert Banister of Cario, Ga.; a sister, Barbara Lee and husband Loy of Sanger; a granddaughter, Jennifer Bibles and husband Charles of Sanche; five grandsons, Kenneth Compton and D.C. Compton, both of Hurst and June, Jonah and Jacob Lara of Claude; and a great-grandson, David "Peanut" Compton of Hurst.
