Private family burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Jason was born and raised in Amarillo. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1995. Jason, a gifted athlete, set many records that still hold today. He enjoyed the outdoors and could usually be found with his friends at the river riding motorcycles or four-wheeling. Jason was employed at Glazer's Distributing at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, B.R. Pennington, in January; and a grandmother, Stella Snider, in 1999. Survivors include a family who loves him so much, a son, Gaven of Clarendon; his parents, Willie and Virginia Pennington of Amarillo; a sister Shelley Kelly and husband John of Amarillo; a brother, Scott Pennington and wife Bonnie of Amarillo; his grandmother, Athel Pennington of Amarillo; two special nieces, Cheyanne Pennington and Lauren Kelly; many loving aunts, uncles and cousins; and the special friends that were so important to him. Coulter St. Mr. DeFries was born Sept. 22, 1929, and served in the Army during the Korean War. He married Wanda Lee Taylor in 1978 in Watertown, S.D. He graduated from Amarillo High School. He was a former amateur wrestler and his wrestling name was "Billy Funk." He attended West Texas A&M University and was on the track team. He retired as a unit commander after 31 years of dedicated service with the Department of Energy. He was a former Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge No. 923 and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne, Special Forces, and was a Green Beret. He was a hard-working man, and a devoted husband, son, brother, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father, "Big Bill" Montgomery; and a brother, Coy Montgomery. Survivors include his wife, Paula Montgomery; two daughters, Yvonne Lennartz and Brandi Montgomery, both of Amarillo; a son, William Montgomery, serving in Iraq, and wife Jessica of Claude; his mother of Amarillo; a brother, Maxie Montgomery of Amarillo; a sister, Maryann Perrin of Amarillo; and three grandchildren, Baylor Avery, Braylynn Montgomery and Benjamin Montgomery. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Humble, and moved to Amarillo in 1960. She worked 10 years for the late Skeet Gibson at Commercial Standard Insurance Co., and retired from Nationwide Crop Hail Insurance Co. after working 10 years for the late Jess Latham. Margaret was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, the Amarillo Senior Citizens Association and several local bridge clubs. Margaret loved life and good friends. She especially enjoyed the holiday season. The Smith Christmas party was held every year for more than 30 years and was one of her favorite times. Family and friends were what Margaret cherished most, and for those that knew her and loved her, she will forever be remembered. Special thanks go to the dedicated employees of the Harrington Cancer Center, BSA Hospice and Angels in Charge. In addition to this she was a member of First Baptist Church, the Senior Citizens Association, the Order of the Eastern Star, AE Shirley 986, Royal Neighbors of America and Bluebonnets. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Oveta Chisum; her first husband, Robbie Roberson; her second husband, Melvin Russell in 2003; a sister, Viola Parker; and a brother, Virgil Chisum. Leona Presser was born Oct. 12, 1922, in Checotah, Okla., to Raymond and Evelyn Thompson. She married Joe Presser on July 1, 1961. Leona worked in restaurants all over Dumas and was loved by all she served. She had been a resident of Dumas since 1956 and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Evelyn was born March 24, 1919, in Austin to John Allston Hope and Clara Isabell Hope. Evelyn's mother, Clara, was the fifth of 14 children from a pioneer Texas family. Evelyn graduated from Plainview High School, Wayland Junior College and Baylor University. She married Fred Allen McMillen on Dec. 15, 1942, in Longview. They had three sons, John Allen, Robert Andrew and Fred Michael. Evelyn taught English literature at Long Jr. High School and Hillcrest High School in Dallas for many years. She retired as dean of instruction at North Dallas High School in 1988. Her life was focused on her faith and her family. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Dallas for more than 50 years and she was very active in the Sanctuary Choir and W.M.U. She was the assistant teacher of the Calanthe Sunday School Class and sang alto in the quartet for the "Look and Live" radio program that aired Sunday mornings on KRLD. Evelyn had a passion for roses. She appreciated the beauty in a garden, and thrilled to the sight of birds. She enjoyed traveling to new places, having visited 49 of the 50 states. She had many lifelong friends whom she cherished. She was an avid reader and she loved to study the Bible. She lived her life in accordance with one of her favorite verses: "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it." She was preceded in death by a son, John Allen McMillen. Survivors include two sons, Robert Andrew McMillen of Sherman and Fred Michael McMillen of Amarillo; a daughter-in-law, Barbara McMillen of Carmel, Ind.; a granddaughter, Caitlin McMillen of Houston; and many friends and relatives.
