Pantel Jr., 92, of Amarillo died Sunday, March 11, 2007. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements were by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Ernest was born Nov. 8, 1914, in Victoria and grew up in the Houston area. A World War II veteran, Ernest served his country courageously in the U.S. Army. He had been a resident of Amarillo for the past 55 years. While residing here, Ernest worked for Frieden Calculator and later Sid Stout Ford until his retirement. He enjoyed playing golf and was elected to the Amarillo Bowling Hall of Fame. Ernest had a great zest for life. He was a very generous, caring and humorous person and led an exemplary Christian life. Ernest will be greatly missed; although, he is now with his Heavenly Father. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Walker Pantel; his second wife, Frances Lelia Pantel; and a daughter, Cecilia Anne Pantel. Survivors include a son, Greg Pantel of Amarillo; a daughter, Barbara Weatherford and husband William of Conroe; two stepsons, John Gaines and wife Christine of Warrenton, Va., and William Gay and wife Pamela of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Jim Pantel of Tyler and Thomas Pantel of Spring; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- James P. "Jim" Buck James P. "Jim" Buck, 69, of Amarillo died Thursday, April 26, 2007. Mr. Buck was born Sept. 10, 1937, in Fort Stockton to Trella and Emmett Buck. He had lived in Amarillo for more than 25 years and had worked as salesman for Auto Zone for the past eight to 10 years. He was a Jehovah's Witness. Survivors include two sons, Jerry Buck and wife Brenda of Irving and Jeff Buck and wife Daveda of South Carolina; a brother, E.A. "Bud" Buck Jr. and wife Jo of Bridgeport; a sister, Billie Williams and husband Warren of Amarillo; and two grandchildren, Daniel and Matthew. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Imogene "Gene" Parson Imogene "Gene" Parson, 80, of Amarillo died Friday, April 27, 2007. Imogene was born Aug. 13, 1926, in Fort Worth to Clarence Eugene and Effie Estelle Pugh Moore. She was a loving and devoted mother and a hard worker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Isaac Parson. Survivors include three sons, Jody Edwards of Childress and Kenneth Parson and Paul Parson, both of Amarillo; three grandchildren, J.D. Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Amarillo South Church. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery East by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Tyler was born May 14, 1985, in Amarillo. He died Thursday, April 26, 2007, in Olympia, Wash. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 2003. He was a senior at Evergreen State College in Olympia. He was to graduate June 15, 2007. Tyler had a lust for life that was unmatched. He loved learning and was a voracious reader. He was interested in philosophy and was always open to debate the mysteries of life. No matter what life tossed at Tyler, he approached things his way. He loved nature and the outdoors and was a lifelong Cubs fan and sports enthusiast. He also loved to play his guitar and listen to music. He was the light of the lives of those he knew. We will sorely miss his spirit and zest for living. Survivors include his parents, Jim and Debbie Carr of Amarillo; his grandparents, Kenneth and Eleanor Carr of Amarillo and "Dub" and Rhonda Norton of Pampa; his fiancee, Caitlin Rory Harrison of Olympia; and many other family and great friends from across the country. Bell St. Mrs. Lewis was born Dec. 4, 1902, in Oklahoma territory to Charlie and Mary Elizabeth Wall. Mrs. Lewis married J.O. Lewis on June 23, 1920, in Clovis, N.M. In July 1922, they loaded what they could in their old Model T Ford and moved to Amarillo. Mr. Lewis retired after 43 years with the Santa Fe Railway. Mrs. Lewis loved family gatherings and instilled great values and love in her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Lewis was a member of First Baptist Church for 70 years. She was preceded in death by her loving husband; a son; a daughter; a grandson; three sisters; and three brothers. Survivors include two sons, Gordon Lewis and wife Beatrice and Hubert Lewis and wife Evelyn, all of Amarillo; two daughters, Mary Ruth Markle of Honey Grove and Doris Hoefer and husband Charlie of Lakewood, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bobby Howell Bobby Howell, 48, of Amarillo died Friday, April 27, 2007. Mr. Howell was born Bobby Lewis Howell Jr. on Nov. 11, 1958, in Bonham. He moved to Brownfield as a small child and grew up there. He graduated from Brownfield High School in 1977 and also attended West Texas State University. He married Julia Simmons on July 25, 1998, in Canyon. Bobby worked for Owens Corning for 20 years and had been working for Bell Helicopter for three years at the time of his death. He was known for his great sense of humor, and he loved to laugh and joke around. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and he had a passion for fishing and motorcycles. Bobby had been a member of Trinity Fellowship Church for 10 years, and he will be remembered by many as a kind and generous person. Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Gordon of Russell, N.Y., and John Simmons and fiancee Brittani Roberts of Amarillo; three daughters, Carolyn Gordon, Emily Fish and husband Scotty and Catherine Simmons, all of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Dylon, Kaiden, Ariah, Gentry, Karson and Corwin; his Mother and Dad, Mary and Louie Lichtenhahn of Bonham and his father, Robert Howell Sr. of Sherman; two sisters, Wanda Kennemer and husband Dayton of Houston and Karen Paty and husband Tim of Farmersville; a niece, Cinnamon McDade and husband Matt of Houston; two nephews, Randy Paty, who is stationed in Iraq, and Logan Paty of Farmersville; and many loving family members and friends. Arrangements are by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mrs. Mathes was born Sept. 12, 1930, in Memphis to Odie and Evie Thompson. She attended school at Deep Lake, Lakeview and she graduated from Memphis High School in 1949. She married Ed Mathes on Sept. 6, 1950, in Clarendon. Leota earned her nursing degree from Northwest Texas School of Nursing in 1950 and worked as a nurse for many years. She loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren, and she had a passion for fishing, gardening and golf. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting and loved to travel. She had been a resident of Amarillo since 1954, and she was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Ed Mathes in 1996. Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Gregory and husband Mark of Canyon and Vicki Neie of Amarillo; a son, Edward Mathes Jr. and wife Peggy of Amarillo; four sisters, Billie June Wyatt and Linda McCreary, both of Durant, Okla., Yvonne Koetting and husband Ed of Borger and Susan Maxwell and husband Michael of Canyon; a brother, Jim Sturdevant and wife Linda of Argyle; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and two great-great-grandchildren on the way. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with the Rev. Robert M. Lindley of Lubbock officiating. Mr. Payne was born June 18, 1930, in Loco to Eugenius Sterling Payne and Ruby Jewel Payne. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1948. Mr. Payne sold farm equipment for most of his career and managed Muleshoe Ford Tractor. He owned a sewing machine repair shop at the time of his retirement and continued to repair machines for several years afterwards. He was a longtime Baptist church member and an active member of Lions Club International for several years. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Blonde Nadine Payne Field, Catherine Joy Payne Johnson and Ruby Jeannette Payne Tickner. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Rice Payne; four children, Vickie D. Payne Cannon and husband Doug, Alan S. Payne, Lisa C. Payne Cave and husband Al and Jay E. She attended Family Life Fellowship. Lenora graduated from West Texas State Teachers College in 1929 and taught grades 1-4 at the Childress school, west of Tulia, until she married Arthur B. Stavlo on June 8, 1932, in Stratford. He preceded her in death in 1983. She was a devout Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Sunray, where she served as director of the junior department for 19 years. She will be missed dearly by all those who knew her. W. "Bob" Sidwell on June 16, 1935, in Enid, Okla. He preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 2002. She was a resident of Pampa from 1935 until 2000, when she moved to Amarillo. She then moved to Bedford in 2002. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and an avid bridge player.
