Gassaway, 52, of Amarillo died Thursday, May 3, 2007, in Lubbock. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Darrel D. Fincher, pastor, and the Rev.Vurn Martin of Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Verble R. Gassaway was born June 16, 1954, in Amarillo to Tim and Annie Gassaway.?He received his religious training at Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church and Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church.?He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1972.? Verble was a fun-loving and free-spirited man, loved by all who had the privilege of truly knowing him.?He loved playing the piano and the saxophone.?He was an excellent cook and baker.?Many lives were touched as he remodeled hundreds of homes in the community. He will be dearly missed by his family and his friends. Survivors include his mother, Annie Owen and husband Edward of Amarillo; his father, Tim Gassaway and wife Linda of Amarillo; a daughter, Deonne Thomas of Oklahoma City; a sister, Janice Faggan of Amarillo; two brothers, Timothy Gassaway and wife Brigitte and Kelvin Gassaway, all of Dallas; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area William E. "Bill" Martin DALHART - William E. "Bill" Martin, 80, died Friday, May 4, 2007. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Central United Methodist Church with Jerry Moore, pastor, and George Chambers, pastor of Lakeview United Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Horizon Funeral Home. William Ellsworth Martin was born May 15, 1926, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to James and Hazel Laird Martin. Mr. Martin joined the armed forces on Feb. 11, 1944. He married Kattie E. Wadlow on May 22, 1945, in Las Vegas, Nev. After World War II they farmed in the Rio Grande Valley near Mission before moving to Iowa in 1950. In 1973, they moved to Dalhart and sold farm chemicals before going back to farming here in the Dalhart area. Bill was instrumental in starting the local chapter of Gideon's International. A longtime member of Central United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday school and was active in a number of church activities. Mr. Martin was also past president of the National Hay Association, member and past president of the Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include two sons, Tom Martin and wife Karen of Amarillo, Jack Martin and wife Sandra Lou of Horseshoe Bay; a daughter, Sandy Slaughter and husband John Slaughter of Dalhart; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Chandler was born April 30, 1927, in Arkansas to Edgar Jackson and Pearl Farley. She married O.E. "Babe" Chandler in Electra. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Louise prided herself in taking care of her family first. She was very talented in quilting and had won many awards for her beautiful work. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid bowler for more than 35 years, playing in many state and national tournaments. She was an active member of the tri- county meals program. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Robert; a daughter, Linda Owens; and a great-grandson, Chandler Pigg. Arrangements are by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon, Okla. Charlie Alexander Davis was born April 8, 1930, in Gruver to Thelma Kegans and Charlie Alexander Davis. C.A. was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1954. He was united in marriage to Geraldine O'Brien on Dec. 31, 1953, in St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada. C.A. returned with his bride to Hansford County, where he was involved in farming and ranching. He recently joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spearman. He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Christine Ann and John Brien; two sisters, Rosalie Cator and Vera May "Tubby" Hays; and two brothers,Warren Davis and Jim Davis. The testimony of her life was completed May 3, 2007, at Odyssey Hospice in Amarillo. Kay was born June 1, 1947, in Pampa. She was baptized at Lefors Methodist Church. She married John W. Graves on June 24, 1973, in Lefors. Her activities were many and included Sunday school teacher, youth group sponsor, United Methodist Women, Wesley Service Guild, High Plains New Horizons and Llano Estacado Emmaus Communities, The Hearing Heart Internet Ministry, Den Master for Troop 620, volunteer and mentor for Muleshoe Indepenedent School District, and lifetime member of the PTA. As a natural organizer, Kay helped develop several projects, including serving on the following: Steering Committees and serving as a board member for High Plains New Horizons Emmaus Community, board member for the M.O.S.T. Committee, Friends of the Library, Muleshoe Blood Advisory Board, Bailey County Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry, Bailey County Ministerial Alliance Hope Chest, Muleshoe Rainbow Room, Compassionate Care and Bailey County Child Welfare Board. Kay was honored to receive the following awards: Muleshoe High School Parent of the Year 1992; Beta Sigma Phi Woman of the Year; Muleshoe Woman of the Year; Region I Volunteer of the Year Community Partners and Lay Director for first international Cleopas Walk to Emmaus. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clark and Ruby Stanton; and a sister, Karen Sue Belt. Survivors include her husband, John W. Graves of Muleshoe, a son, Adam Graves and wife Jessica of Amarillo; a daughter, Courtney Milleson and husband Jay of Amarillo; two granddaughters, Madeline Kay Milleson and Zara Alise Graves; and those who affectionarely as "Mama K."
