Mr. Hernandez was born Oct. 15, 1969, in Chihuahua, Mexico, to Matilde and Luz Hernandez. He worked as a laborer for a dairy farmer. He loved spending time with his granddaughter, Aspyn, and especially enjoyed teaching her how to drive. Although he battled many demons, John was loved by his family and will be dearly missed. On March 17, 1951, she married Wayne Doak who preceded her in death in 1998. She worked in housekeeping at Memorial Hospital, was a dietician for area nursing homes and retired as a meat inspector from Swift & Co. Gerri had been a resident of Dumas since 1936 and was a member of First Assembly of God. Jones, Dimmitt, TX 79027. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Clyde Rush HEREFORD - Dr. Clyde Rush, 87, formerly of Hereford, died Thursday, May 3, 2007, in Amarillo. Celebration of life services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Hereford Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Ted Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by the Hereford High School JROTC unit. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Dr. Rush was born Oct. 23, 1919, in Muncie, Ind., the son of Clyde C. and Mabel Rush. He married Doris Trogdon on Oct. 30, 1943, in San Francisco. Dr. Rush graduated Lindbloon High School in Chicago in 1936 and studied pre- med at Ball State University from 1936 to 1940. He went to medical school at Indiana University, first obtaining his B.S. degree and then his M.D. degree in 1943. Dr. Rush did his internship at the Santa Clara County Hospital in San Jose, Calif., from October 1943 to July 1946. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served mainly with the 4th Marine Division as a lieutenant junior grade from July 1944 to November 1946. Dr. Rush did his preceptorship under Dr. Anson Hurley from November 1946 to November 1947 and his pathology residency at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie from November 1947 to June 1948. His post-graduate study was at the University of Pennsylvania School of Surgery in Philadelphia from October 1948 to June 1949. Dr. Rush had a general practice in Hereford from 1949 to 1951. He did his thoracic surgery residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., from 1951 to 1953. From 1954 to 1961, Dr. Rush was a chest surgeon at McNight State Sanatorium. In 1961, Dr. Rush moved back to Hereford and had a general and thoracic surgical practice until 1986. In 1986, Dr. Rush moved to Rockdale, where he practiced general surgery until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the American Medical Society, a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Hereford Church of the Nazarene. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lani Susan Long; and a sister, Irene Clark. Survivors include his wife, Doris; two sons, Santry Rush and wife Paula of Green Valley, Ariz., and Dana Rush and wife Trudy of Bastrop; two daughters, Dr. Rosalind Rush Dees and husband Joe of House Springs, Mo., and Shelley Burelsmith and husband Larry of Lubbock; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great- grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nannie Lou "Nan" Lawrence Henard WELLINGTON - Nannie Lou "Nan" Lawrence Henard, 93, died Saturday, May 5, 2007. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ricky Carstensen officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Henard was born Aug. 31, 1913, youngest of three daughters, to Mattie Easley and Jefferson Zachariah "Joe" Lawrence in Dallas County. Mrs. Henard's family were some of the first to settle in what is now Dallas and Mesquite, moving from Maryland to the Republic of Texas in 1842. She was the last descendent of the family whose Dallas County property was originally a part of the old Cameron Land Grant. She attended Mesquite elementary and secondary schools, and graduated from Baylor University in 1937. After her graduation from Baylor she boarded a train to Wellington, where she began teaching first grade the day after she arrived. Mrs. Henard met and married Dan Morgan Henard Sr. on Aug. 27, 1939, in Midlothian. Mr. Henard was a rancher and farmer whose family settled in Collingsworth County in the late 1890s. She taught elementary grades in the Samnorwood and Wellington schools in Collingsworth County, retiring in 1979. Dan Sr. passed away in 1969. Mrs. Henard was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Wellington for 70 years. She taught Sunday school, was a member of the Lydia Circle of the United Methodist Women and played an active part in many other church ministries. She was also active in a number of community organizations, including Cub Scouts, the Business and Professional Women's Club, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She loved to work in her yard and garden, and she loved to travel. When her sons were growing up, she took them on a number of trips to Europe and across the United States. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nan Lawrence in 1943; and two sisters, Wilma Carrington of Commerce and Mary Lawrence of Sunnyvale. She was the property manager for Chase Tower. Traci was a Meals on Wheels volunteer and a member of Hillside Christian Church. A friend was quoted, "Traci was full of life and happiness." A native of Logan, N.M., Mr. Byrd served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an aviation machinist mate 3rd class aboard B-24 aircraft with frequent missions in Europe and North Africa. He served the city of Amarillo as a firefighter from 1949 to 1952. Of the Baptist faith, Mr. Byrd often served as a Sunday school teacher. He was the owner of Amarillo Equipment Service which he founded in 1963 and operated in Amarillo for more than 25 years. Mr. Byrd had made his home in Valle De Oro since 1993 with his wife of 29 years, Janice A. Byrd. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Ann Byrd. Survivors include his wife, Janice A Byrd; two sons, Ralph Byrd and wife Shirley and Ben Byrd; two daughters, Delila York and husband Bill and Sarah Ward and husband Mike; a brother, William H. Amarillo Globe-News, May 5, 2007 Eugene "Gene" Frank Barksdale Eugene "Gene" Frank Barksdale, 78, of Timbercreek Canyon died Wednesday, May 2, 2007. Eugene "Gene" Frank Barksdale, 78, of The Village of Timbercreek Canyon passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2007, after a lengthy illness. A descendent of the earliest settlers in the Texas Panhandle, including Sam Wood, the first settler in the Panhandle, Gene was born Dec. 8, 1928, to the late Thomas Frank and Charlotte Brewer Barksdale in Amarillo. Gene spent his late teenage years as a working cowboy at several ranches, including the 000 in Vernon, the Ladder Ranch in Hot Springs, N.M., and the XXX and the Ubar ranches, also in New Mexico. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1948 and was active with the 36th Fighter Wing during the Berlin Air Lift and during other military exercises in Europe and Libya. He also served in the Air Defense Command during the Korean War and spent 11? years at the Amarillo Air Force Base, where he trained jet fighter mechanics for the Vietnam War. After 26 years of military service, Gene retired as a master sergeant. In 1968, Gene married Lynda Ward and began a career as a real estate broker. Still a cowboy at heart, he became a part of the 4th Cavalry Indian Wars Re- enactment Group. He was a member as well of the Will Rogers Range Riders, was a founding member of the Working Ranch Cowboys Association (WRCA) and was a member of Panhandle Trailriders Association. A lover of the outdoors and trail riding, he participated in many rides across the country, spending many nights around a campfire practicing his craft of master storyteller. Gene possessed as well a private pilot's license, flying single engine aircraft and gliders. In 1979, Gene's family was one of the first to settle in Timbercreek Canyon. Caring about his civic responsibility, he served two terms as alderman for the Village of Timbercreek Canyon and served for 10 years as a board member of Partners in Palo Duro Canyon Foundation, a support group for Palo Duro Canyon State Park. He served also as a Cub Master and a Boy Scout leader and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Survivors include his wife, Lynda; two sons, Fred Barksdale and wife Linda of Amarillo and Doug Ward of Las Vegas; three daughters, Charlotte Wall and husband John of Branson, Mo., Marlene Castleberry and husband James of Borger and Leslie Supina of Amarillo; a half sister, Frankie McKinney and husband Walter of Childress; seven grandchildren, Nick and Brad Barksdale, Chris and J.J. Hearron, Michelle Adkins and Lauren and Patrick Supina; a great- grandchild, Christian Hearron; numerous other relatives; and many, many, friends. He also completed drafting classes at Amarillo College. He was an intern architect for the architect firm of Dekker Parrich & Sabitini in Amarillo. He loved his work and the people he worked with very much and was excited to become an architect. Brian's greatest love was being a dad and spending time with his kids. He loved his family and loved being a big brother. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, going to the river and spending time with his friends. He was a member of Hillside Christian Church. Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents, Max and Harriett Rarick. Bell St. Mrs. Reese was born Jan. 23, 1926, in Shamrock, Okla., the first of two daughters to Ora and Alma Cook. Mary Louise married Frank Tigart Jr. on June 3, 1945, in Amarillo. Beloved by family and friends for her faithfulness and bravery in times of great sadness, she raised her two daughters in a loving, secure home and touched the lives of all who knew her, especially her three grandsons, with her sweetness and strength. The church family of Buchanan Street United Methodist Church supported her for many years with their love and fellowship.
