Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with Glen Walton officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Cox- LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Carroll was born April 20, 1921, in Abilene, was raised there and was a graduate of Abilene High School. He attended West Texas State College, Amarillo College, The University of Wisconsin and the Legal Justice School, Naval Training Center in New Port, R.I. He had been a resident of Amarillo for more than 60 years. He married Emma Jane Austin on Nov. 25, 1944, in Hackensack, N.J. She passed away in 1997. Mr. Carroll served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as well as the Korean conflict. He served aboard the USS Marblehead in the Asiatic Fleet, Philippine Islands, on Dec. 7, 1941, during the start of World War II. He later served on other combat ships. He received the Presidential Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Good Conduct, China Service Medal, American Defense Medal - 1 star, American Area Campaign, European African, Middle East Area - 1 star, Asiatic Pacific Area, 12 combat stars, Victory WW II, Philippine Defense - 1 star and the Philippine Liberation with 1 star. After his naval career, Mr. Carroll entered employment with the Texas Employment Commission where he served as a supervisor and manager for 22 years. He was a member of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and served on the Industrial Development Board, the Texas First Program Job Creation Campaign. He was also a coordinator for the Amarillo Summer Youth Employment Program as well as section chairman for the United Way. He was a longtime member of Southlawn Church of Christ where he served as a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Bell Avenue Church of Christ. He also served on the board of directors for the Amarillo Christian Schools and High Plains Children's Home. Mr. Carroll loved taking walks, fishing and reading. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Bland, in 1997. Survivors include three sons, Ralph Carroll and wife Dawna and Clifford Carroll, all of Amarillo, and Cornell Carroll and wife Annie of Claude; two daughters, Priscilla Haynes and husband Haley and Mary Beth Klein, all of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Susan Roberts of Amarillo The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice and Life Enrichment, P.O. On June 19, 1981, she married Doyle Genn in Dumas. She was a resident of Dumas until 2003, at which time she moved to Amarillo where she currently worked as a receptionist for C&B Printing. She was a member of 9th and Bliss Church of Christ in Dumas. Karen was a loving mother and loved her grandchildren dearly. Georgia St. Earl Jones was born Sept. 22, 1938, in Bryan County, Okla., to Bill and Dora Jones. Mr. Jones graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1956, and entered the U.S. Army in 1961. He served in Korea and two terms in Vietnam, retiring in 1971. He was the recipient of three Purple Hearts and was active in the reserves until 1997. In 1970 he worked for Pantex retiring from the Department of Energy in January 2000. He was the founder of the Purple Heart Association Amarillo Chapter. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Jesse Jones Jr.; and his parents, Bill and Dora Jones. Anthony married Angela Wethington on Feb. 15, 1953. He was a farmer most of his life. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth. He was on the Dimmitt Wheat Growers Junior Board, Plains Memorial Hospital Board, Deaf Smith REC Board, he was the financial secretary of the Catholic Order of Foresters for more than 50 years, a member of the Nazareth Lions Club, Holy Family Parish Council, Nazareth Hall Committee, Eucharistic minister and was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Acker; four sisters, Clara Kleman, Alice Acker, Emma Moser and Mary Acker; and two brothers, Herman and Paul Acker. He married Rubye Goza on Jan. 22, 1948, in Oney, Okla. He served in the Air Force and was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher for 38 years. He was a retired county supervisor for the FHA. He moved to Wellington in 1967 from Anson. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Mr. Brewer was born Nov. 3, 1964, in Pampa. He lived in Albuquerque, N.M., moving from Lubbock. He was a construction worker. Denny grew up in Waka, and attended grade school through middle school there. He played sports but loved playing basketball for the Waka Cubs. He later attended high school in Spearman. One of his mentors was Mrs. Marsha Murphy. Some of his favorite hobbies were arrowhead hunting, fishing, hunting and drawing and painting. One of his treasured memories was going to Canada to fish with his dad. He loved his family and his son, Cyrus. He was an outstanding artist, always making different types of artwork. Our brother, son, nephew, cousin and friend will be greatly missed. Our comfort is knowing he is now with our father.
