Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with Glen Walton officiating. Arrangements are by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Carroll was born April 20, 1921, in Abilene, was raised there and was a graduate of Abilene High School. He attended West Texas State College, Amarillo College, The University of Wisconsin and the Legal Justice School, Naval Training Center in New Port, R.I. He had been a resident of Amarillo for more than 60 years. He married Emma Jane Austin on Nov. 25, 1944, in Hackensack, N.J. She passed away in 1997. Mr. Carroll served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as well as the Korean conflict. He served aboard the USS Marblehead in the Asiatic Fleet, Philippine Islands, on Dec. 7, 1941, during the start of World War II. He later served on other combat ships. He received the Presidential Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Good Conduct, China Service Medal, American Defense Medal - 1 star, American Area Campaign, European African, Middle East Area - 1 star, Asiatic Pacific Area, 12 combat stars, Victory WW II, Philippine Defense - 1 star and the Philippine Liberation with 1 star. After his naval career, Mr. Carroll entered employment with the Texas Employment Commission where he served as a supervisor and manager for 22 years. He was a member of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and served on the Industrial Development Board, The Texas First Program Job Creation Campaign. He was also a coordinator for the Amarillo Summer Youth Employment Program as well as section chairman for the United Way. He was a longtime member of Southlawn Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Bell Avenue Church of Christ. He also served on the board of directors for the Amarillo Christian Schools and High Plains Children's Home. Mr. Carroll loved taking walks, fishing and reading. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Bland, in 2004. Survivors include three sons, Ralph Carroll and wife Dawna and Clifford Carroll, all of Amarillo, and Cornell Carroll and wife Annie of Claude; two daughters, Priscilla Haynes and husband Haley and Mary Beth Klein, all of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Susan Roberts of Amarillo The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice and Life Enrichment, P.O. She will be missed by her many grandchildren, whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 1983; and a daughter, Sue Amie. Georgia St. Ruby Daniel was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Yellow Pine, La., to William and Mattie Daniel. She graduated from Sibley High School in Sibley, La., in 1938. She worked as a clerk with civil service and was assigned to the 46th Supply Squadron at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colo. She retired Feb. 29, 1980, after 37 years of service. She moved from Colorado Springs to Amarillo in 1992. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, J.W. Daniel. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Howard Batson, pastor, officiating, and the Rev. Lynn Garrett, minister to senior adults, assisting. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Christine was born March 2, 1912, in Little Rock, Ark. She later moved with her family to Hobart, Okla., and then as a teenager to Amarillo. Her father owned a cleaners on Polk Street across from old Amarillo High School. She graduated from AHS in 1930. When she was a senior at AHS she met the love of her life, the late Robert H. "Bob" Damon. They met at what is now Buchanan Street Baptist Church. Christine was the church pianist and Bob sang with a youth group in the church. They were married July 20, 1930, by the late Rev. J.C. Sisemore. They exchanged vows during a live broadcast from the studio of station KGRS on the mezzanine floor of the Herring Hotel. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on July 20, 2005. Christine retired from Phillips Petroleum Co. She had worked with deeds, records and wills and became very interested in working on her family history. So when she and Bob retired, they became self-taught genealogists, traveling extensively researching deeds, records, wills and cemeteries. The end result was the publishing of three books, "Wetherall/Weatherall of the United States," "Nutt/McNutt Descendants of David Nutt of Orange County, North Carolina" and "Cooper of S.W. Virginia and Middle Tennessee." All of these books have been a great source of information for these descendants. Christine was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school classes, sang in the choir and played the piano. She also was involved with the Daughters of The American Revolution and the Genealogy Society. She was a joy to be around. She loved people and loved to make you laugh. She was not shy about sharing her faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; and two brothers, Floyd Weatherall and Bill Weatherall. Survivors include two sons, Dr. William J. Damon and wife Roberta of Chester, Va., and Bob Damon and wife Wanda of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Lynda Damon, Bobby Damon, Clark Damon, Paul Damon and Mark Damon; and seven great- grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guy Franklin Greenfield Dr. Guy Franklin Greenfield, 75, of Amarillo died May 13, 2007. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Hillside Christian Church chapel with Mike Nuthman, congregational care pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Dr. Greenfield was born Aug. 17, 1931, to Fish and Ruby Wallace Greenfield in Frederick, Okla., where he was raised, and graduated from Frederick High School. He relocated permanently to Amarillo in 1996. He earned a B.A. in religion and sociology from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla., in 1953, earned a master of divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth in 1956, and a Ph.D. in Christian ethics from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1961. He also earned his master's in sociology from Texas Tech in 1970. He completed post-doctoral fellowships from Oxford University in Oxford, England, in 1981 and 1983 and from Texas Christian University in 1982. He received his clinical pastoral education internship certificate from Palm Beach County Mental Health Center in West Palm Beach, Fla., in 1975. Dr. Greenfield had 25 years of pastoral ministry, including churches in Grandville, Okla., College Station, West Palm Beach, Los Alamos and Albuquerque, N.M., and 16 years of teaching at Judson College in Marion, Ala., Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, adjunct professorship at the University of New Mexico in Los Alamos, adjunct professorship at the Amarillo Center of Wayland Baptist University, professor and department chair for 11 years at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He had been a guest professor at Seminario Internacional Teologico Bautista in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Montevideo, Uraguay, Stealy Lecturer at Louisiana College and lecturer for Holy Land Travel Seminars. He was a member of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors and was a charter member of National Association of Christian Counselors and Christian Counselors of Texas. He was a member and endorsed counselor of the Chaplains and Pastoral Counselors Endorsement Commission of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He was the recipient of the Profile of Excellence Award as an outstanding alumnus of Oklahoma Baptist University. He authored seven books and was working on one at the time of his death: "The Wounded Parent," "We Need Each Other," "Self-Affirmations," "Families Practicing God's Love," "Re-igniting Love and Passion" and "The Wounded Minister." His current work is "Getting Your Act Together: Finding Joy in a Joyless World." He also wrote numerous articles for various publications. He married Shirley Wheeler on July 13, 1997, in Amarillo. Dr. Greenfield was a member of Paramount Terrace/Hillside Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; and a brother, Charles. Georgia St. Earl Jones was born Sept. 22, 1938, in Bryan County, Okla., to Bill and Dora Jones. Mr. Jones graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1956, and entered the U.S. Army in 1961. He served in Korea and two terms in Vietnam, retiring in 1971. He was the recipient of three Purple Hearts and was active in the reserves until 1997. In 1970 he worked for Pantex retiring from the Department of Energy in January 2000. He was the founder of the Purple Heart Association Amarillo Chapter. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Jesse Jones Jr.; and his parents, Bill and Dora Jones. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Mr. McAlexander was born Aug. 13, 1927, to Walter Lee and Agnes Harbour McAlexander on the family farm northwest of Reed, Okla. He was just a little boy of 3 when his mother died and a young man of 19 when his father passed away. He married his sweetheart, Winona Lee Chambers, on Sept. 6, 1947, in Wellington. They made their home and farmed at Reed, Okla., for a number of years. They moved to California in 1956 making Hacienda Heights their home. He was an ironworker with Soule Steel until his retirement in 1978. That year they moved to Amarillo, where he worked for Wal-Mart for 10 years. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Lee McAlexander and Walter Gene "Shorty" McAlexander; and a sister, Exa Culpepper. Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Winona; a son, Sam, and wife Resa of Amarillo; four daughters, Suesan Powlison of Canby, Ore., Janette McAlexander of El Dorado, Kan., Roseanita Andrews and husband Walker of Towanda, Kan., and Peggy Mathews and husband Blaine of Kechi, Kan.; a brother, J.B. Kidwell Jr., 75, formerly of Amarillo, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, in Fort Worth. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Friday in First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo with Dick Brooks officiating. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Kidwell was an Amarillo native, born in 1931, graduated in 1948 from Amarillo High School. He attended Baylor, worked on graduate work in University of Northern Colorado at Greeley and then UCLA. Mr. Kidwell was director of music education for 17 years for the Amarillo Independent School District. He also started the first band at Boys Ranch. Mr. Kidwell was a part of the Amarillo Symphony, serving in many capacities - bass player, manager and board president. He directed the music at West Amarillo Christian Church, the Amarillo Air Base chapel and then at First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo for 20 years. He also served as musical director for several Amarillo Little Theatre productions. Mr. Kidwell served for two years on the Grants Review Committee of the Texas Commission on the Arts and worked with the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce in planning the Greater Southwest Music Festival, also serving on that board of directors. Mr. Kidwell was testing coordinator for the Juilliard School Repertory Project, Texas A&M's Project Education Inter-Americana and the Ford Foundation's Young Composers Project. After retiring from the symphony, Mr. Kidwell continued to be a part of music in Amarillo, working at Tolzien's Music Co. Mr. Kidwell has spent the last several years living in Austin with his wife, Geraldine, and had recently moved to Hurst. Mr. Kidwell's vision of the arts - music, dance and art - brought humor, fun, joy, hope and commitment into the lives of generations of students in the Amarillo area. His vision for the community inspired many of the creative outlets now available to the city. In an Amarillo Globe-Times article from 1965, Mr. Kidwell is quoted as looking "to a time when (the Amarillo Symphony) must have more professional players and the time when an increase in young artist awards will be needed. Opera and ballet should be brought into prominence in the city," suggested Kidwell, "with an increase in specialized training for student in voice and instruments." He also hoped to start "a permanent youth symphony for youngsters of high school age" and "include a children's choir to give selected voices of the community greater opportunities to sing." He was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Kidwell. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Parrott was born Sept. 24, 1940, in Littlefield to Earl and Betty Parrott. He graduated from Sudan High School and earned his B.B.A. in finance from West Texas State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years (1959-1962). He retired from Southwestern Public Service after working for 33 years. He was manager of office buildings and records for Southwestern Public Service in Amarillo, and was one of the four representatives selected from an approximately 15-state region to sit on a utilities industry exchange panel at the National Postal Forum South, March 12-14, 1991, in Atlanta. Officials in Washington, D.C., chose Parrott from a list of nominees representing thousands of business and industry members of city Postal Customer Councils, which help formulate local post office policies for businesses. Parrott was a co-chairman of Amarillo's Postal Customer Council, which has more than 300 members. He was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. He served as past president of Rotary West in 1995 and was also a Mason. Mr. Parrott married Alma Lora Muller on Feb. 17, 1961. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his stepdad, Christy Parmer. Ms. Whinnery was born Dec. 2, 1923, in Sayre, Beckham County, to Walter Northcutt and Anna Frances Sallinger Elliott. A 1940 graduate of Sweetwater High School, she was a basketball player and a national standout in 4-H activities. She married James Fields Mackey in Raton, N.M., and they lived at the Continental Carbon Camp near Sunray, Texas. Virginia received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas, with numerous post-graduate teaching certifications. She taught for nearly 40 years in the Texas public school system. This included educational activities at Dumas, Amarillo (Lawndale and Hillside Elementary Schools, Kilgore Children's Psychiatric Hospital) and New Braunfels/Comal Elementary Schools. She was the first teacher to be selected for integration of the previously segregated Amarillo schools. Upon retirement she lived in Amarillo and Dumas, and subsequently in Oklahoma City. She left a legacy of many students who grew to be successful, educated citizens of the United States. Burial will take be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home. Mrs. Garcia was born Aug. 30, 1910, in Trementina. She was a member of the Catholic church and had been a homemaker. Survivors include five daughters, Emma Soto of California, Alice Roybal of Las Vegas, N.M., and Rose Segle, Jane Fowlkes and Fabie Phelps, all of Fort Worth; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jacob J. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the church. Burial will be in Mosquero Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari. Mr. Trujillo was born March 22, 1950, in Springer. At the time of his death he was the area maintenance supervisor for District 4 of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1951 and was later inducted into the AHS Hall of Fame. Jerry received his bachelor and master of science degrees from Texas A&M University. On Feb. 4, 1956, Jerry married Sue Skelton in Temple. From 1956 to 1958, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. He received the rank of captain. In 1967, Jerry received his doctorate from Texas Tech University. From 1976 to 2006, Dr. Ramsey was a professor of industrial engineering at TTU, where he served as associate vice president for academic affairs from 1977 until 1989. Throughout the years, Dr. Ramsey received many professional, civic and governmental awards, including Who's Who in Engineering and Who's Who in the World. In his later years, his life was enriched by a special friendship with Jeri Lott. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue, in 1994. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Robert Alston Langhorne Sr. was born June 7, 1910, to Joseph and Nellie Alston Langhorne in Dalhart. He graduated from Dalhart High School in 1927. On Feb. 18, 1934, he married Mary Kirk in Clayton, N.M. Bob was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast who loved fly fishing and any other fishing. He played and excelled in all sports including tennis, baseball and golf. Bob was Club Champion at Dalhart Country Club six times. Bob was a 1928 charter member of the Ambassador Club and remained active for more than 70 years. He served with H. Coon on the Coon Hospital Board, was city councilman for four years and mayor of Dalhart for two years. He was active in Dalhart Chamber of Commerce and the Dalhart Lions Club, serving as president for two separate terms. Mr. Langhorne was known for serving as master of ceremonies for many banquets and civic occasions, was past chairman of the United Fund, was one of the organizers of the 55 Plus Club and its financial chairman, was an active member of the Dalhart Country Club, serving on the board of directors and serving as president three different times. He served on the Girl Scout Board. Mr. Langhorne started an insurance agency and real estate business in 1945, leaving the business in 1968 to become trust officer and vice president at Citizens State Bank. Upon retirement he and Mary spent their summers in Gunnison, Colo., enjoying friends, fishing, traveling and their family. Even after retirement he was instrumental in the settlement of the Cleo Jenkins Estate that resulted in the scholarships for high school seniors in Dallam and Hartley counties. To date the scholarships have totaled more than $1.2 million. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters; and two grandsons.
