Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Brumley was born March 20, 1932, in Wilshire, Okla. to Thomas and Ada Belle Brumley. He worked in the agriculture business on farms. He was a devoted husband and father and he never met a stranger. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a veteran in the United States Air Force serving in Korea. Mr. Brumley was preceded in death by his son, Tom in 1988 and his wife Shirley in 1996. Survivors include four daughters, Debra Brumley and Sherry Gray, both of Amarillo, Connie Triplett of Guthrie, Okla., and Mary Brumley of Abilene; six sons, Benjamin Brumley of Jennings, Okla., William Brumley, Jimmy Brumley, Kevin Brumley and Howard Brumley, all of Amarillo, and David Brumley of Phoenix, Ariz.; four sisters, Effie Dupree of Garden City, Kan., Trudie Dendy of Amarillo, Shirley Nelson of Sunray, and Lois O'Brien of Canada; 20 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, May 21, 2007 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Homer Eugene Ewton Homer Eugene Ewton, 82, of Amarillo died Saturday, May 19, 2007. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with the Rev. Windell Taylor, chaplain VA Administration. Private family burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Ewton was born July 20,1924, and was reared in Shamrock. When he was 17 years old, with the permission of his parents, Homer moved to Amarillo in order to serve as an intern at Blackburn Shaw Funeral Home. He graduated from Amarillo High School, completing his senior year while living in the garage apartment above Blackburn Shaw. One week after graduation, Homer was drafted into the service at the beginning of World War II. He served with the Marines and spent most of his military career in the South Pacific. Mr. Ewton was chosen for two special assignments while in Japan. He was asked to guard and accompany Dr. Oppenheimer as he inspected the aftermath of atomic bomb damage at Nagasaki. Also while in Nagasaki, he had the honor of helping the Marines liberate eight prisoner of war camps. Fifty-four years after the war ended, one of the liberated prisoners, a man from Texas, called Mr. Ewton to express his appreciation for all that our Marines did to save their lives and to keep this country free. When he returned from the war, Homer married his high school sweetheart, Lola Pennington. They moved to Houston so that Homer could attend Baylor Mortuary School. Upon graduation, they returned to Amarillo and Homer went to work for Blackburn Shaw Funeral Home. He then managed Amarillo Ambulance Service for the four Amarillo funeral homes for 12 years. Homer later partnered with Howard Boxwell in the building and ownership of Golden Spread Convalescent Home. Ten years later, he went to work for Potter County Sheriff's Office and retired as a captain after 30 years of law enforcement. Mr. Ewton was a member of First Baptist Church, a life member of Disabled American Veterans, the National Rifle Association, and Amarillo Masonic Lodge 731, and a charter member of Scottish Rite Khiva Temple. In January 2005, Mr. Ewton's physical health declined. When he no longer had the use of his legs, he entered the Thomas E. Creek Veterans Administration Medical Center Nursing Home. The care and concern that he and his family have received there exceeded all expectations. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the Amarillo VA doctors, medical staff and administration for becoming a part of our family. Survivors include four daughters, Jan Elsis and husband Tony and Julie Kruckeberg and husband Kenneth, all of Amarillo, Gayle Easley and husband Richard of Edmond, Okla., and Debbie Ewton of Odessa; four grandchildren, Brad Bowser, Amy Easley, Katie Easley, and Jeffrey Kruckeberg; a great- granddaughter, Berkley Anne Bowser; and our longtime family friend, Mary Kay Hudnell. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Groom by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100S. Georgia St. Mr. Friemel was born in 1935, in Hereford to Herbert and Josephine Friemel. He married Neysa M. Boggs in Amarillo on April 18, 1956. He farmed in Hereford and Groom for many years, which was his passion and brought him joy. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Groom. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Friemel, on Aug. 2, 2003. Survivors include two daughters, Lynette Friemel of Bluffton, S.C., Michelle Britten and husband Russell of Oklahoma City; a son Mike Friemel and wife Stephanie of Groom; children's mother Neysa Friemel of Groom; two sisters, Joyce Gerber of Canyon and Beverly Ward of Hereford; three brothers, Jerome Friemel of Houston, Frank Friemel and Galen Friemel, both of Canyon; his mother, Josephine Friemel of Canyon; 10 grandchildren, Melanie, Jessica, Ashley, Trevor, Brett, Kelsey, Myles, Collin, Kayla and Cole; and two great- grandchildren, Madison and Ali. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Webb was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Hedley, to Dr. James Webb and Lula Maud Webb. He saw action on Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa, Japan during World War II as a Marine with the 2nd Marine Division. He retired from Southwestern Public Service in 1985, after 37 years of service. He was a dedicated, loving husband and a great dad. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings. No services are scheduled. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Guthrie was born March 27, 1950, in Amarillo to Sterling H. Guthrie and Johnnie Phillips Guthrie. He grew up in Amarillo and graduated from Tascosa High in 1968. He joined the Navy and served during the Vietnam War and received several medals. He worked for the state of Texas in Austin for many years. He was a Christian. He will be remembered most for his kindness and his witty personality. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful people at BSA Hospice who took care of him during his illness. He was preceded in death by his father, a nephew, Larry Carpenter, a niece, Keri Nebgen and great-nephew, Wyatt Nebgen.
