Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Blackburn-Shaw Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road with the Rev. Gary Kellison officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Caudle was born April 10, 1927, in Hale Center to Archie and Edith Caudle, where he lived for 36 years. He married Wanda Kellison on June 17, 1952. He farmed and ranched as a young man, until he moved to Earth where he worked as a farm equipment technician. He returned to ranching for another 15 years, then moved to Amarillo where he worked for ACCO Feeds as a mill operator. After he retired, he was a school crossing guard and worked at Wonderland Park as a train operator. Ben, at age 62 went back to school to learn to read and write. His teacher Sandy Woods became a special friend. He never met a single stranger and will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Vickie Farrar and husband Alvin, and their goddaughter Chantal Whetzel; a sister, Georgia Handley; a granddaughter, Misti Lester and husband James; a grandson, Chad Farrar and wife Tianna; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Evelyn Hooks Evelyn Hooks, 87, of Amarillo died Sunday June 3, 2007. She grew up and graduated from High School in Courtney, Okla. She married Robert L. Hooks on Nov. 17, 1941, in Bonham. They moved to Amarillo in 1947. She volunteered many hours to World Bible Study and loved going to the Sunshiners Group at Southwest Church of Christ. She read her bible daily and loved watching TV Evangelists. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982; parents; two brothers; and a sister. Survivors include a son, Ronnie Hooks and wife Deana; four grandchildren, Tim Hooks and wife Leslie, Kathy Stephens, Erica Hooks and Leigh Ann Hooks; six great-grandchildren, Kaylynn, Keedan, Kenlie & Kenna Hooks, Koby and Kyleigh Stephens, all of Amarillo; four brothers, Frank Arledge of Dothan, Ala., Chester Arledge of Anaheim, Calif., Darl Arledge of Abilene and Bill Arledge of Ardmore, Okla. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Church of Christ at the Colonies with Dick Marcear officiating. Private family burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mrs. Cory was born on July 25, 1924, in Amarillo to Harvey Allen and Adeline Roark. She was a graduate of Amarillo High School and had lived in Amarillo her entire life. She married Edwin Cory on Sept. 5, 1941 in Amarillo. Ruth worked for many years as a Court Clerk for the Amarillo Police Department and also worked in the cafeteria at South Lawn Elementary School for a time. She and her husband were instrumental in helping start San Jacinto Church of Christ and also South Lawn Church of Christ. She was a member of Church of Christ at the Colonies at the time of her death. She loved to read, play tennis, travel, crochet and play games. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Carl Roark; and a sister, Estelle Snow. Survivors include two daughters, Sheri Dean and husband Wallace and Sue Shields and husband Edward, all of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Tammie Cleeton and husband Ronald of Amarillo, Cory Shields and wife Nancy of Cedar Park, Zane Shields and wife Kimberlee of Lubbock, Faith Chenault and husband Gray and Elizabeth Phelan and husband Jon, all of Austin; and eight great- grandchildren, and one on the way. Miss Duncan was born March 29, 1970 in Albuquerque, NM. She graduated from El Dorado High School in 1988. She received an Associate of Arts from Al Collins School of Graphic Design in Phoenix, Ariz. and a bachelor of fine art degree from Eastern New Mexico State University. Miss Duncan moved to Amarillo in 1999 from Albuquerque where she had worked at Graphics Galore. She also worked at the Amarillo Globe News as a graphic designer. She was an Amarillo SPCA volunteer. She was preceded in death by a brother, David Duncan in 1973. Survivors include her parents, John and Kerin Duncan of Amarillo; a brother, Glenn Duncan and wife Kerima of Amarillo; her grandmother, Emma I. She had been a resident of Amarillo since 1970. She was a graduate of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton. She was a retired personnel supervisor for Farmers Home Administration after 30 years of service. Upon retirement she moved to Amarillo and worked for High Plains Childrens Home for 10 years. She was a member of Eastern Star, Kiwanis and senior citizens. Connie enjoyed her life, laughed a lot and loved to play games. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Bryant in 1986. Burial will be in Stinnett Cemetery. Mr. Jennings was born March 17, 1914 in Throckmorton, and married Eva B. Jennings on April 29, 1941 in Sweetwater. He worked for Phillips Petroleum in Borger and was a member of Franklin St. Church of Christ. Jones KRESS - Ewel B. Jones, 93, died Friday, June 1, 2007 in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Kress Church Of Christ. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Jones was born June 25, 1913, in Troy to Benjamin and Maudie Jones. He married Dessie Mae Ray on Dec. 13, 1941, in Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a son-in-law, Forrest Newton of Clarendon; two grandsons; and two great-grandsons. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Canyon James Thomas Irwin James Thomas Irwin, 80, of Canyon died Monday, June 4, 2007 in Amarillo. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Davis Price, pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Lubbock, officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors. James Irwin was born July 19, 1926 in Columbus, Ohio to Alonzo and Louise Irwin . He died on June 4, 2007 in Amarillo. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Iva Jean Winters, on Nov. 26, 1947. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor of science degree in floriculture from Ohio State University in 1948. Upon graduation, they moved to Guthrie, Okla., where Jim was production manager for Furrow and Company. While there, he developed the first year-round production schedules for pot mums and azaleas. In 1963, he moved his family to Canyon where he established Irwin Greenhouses, Inc. which over the years has been know for its diversified line of quality pot plants. In 1974, J & L Plants, Inc., was established to produce and market the kalanchoe varieties which Jim had developed and patented. He was the first person to commercially produce kalanchoes. Presently over 150,000,000 plants are produced annually worldwide from his work in the breeding of Kalanchoes. Jim has received numerous awards for his work in the floral industry including the WTNM Silver Rose, the SAF Gold Medal Award, TSFA Achievement Award, Oklahoma State "Grower of the Year" and induction into the American Academy of Florists. He is known throughout the horticulture industry for his integrity, innovative spirit, his dedication to quality within the industry and his generosity. In addition to his work in the floral industry, Jim was a community leader serving within the Presbyterian Church of Canyon as a deacon, an elder and on numerous committees including being executive building committee chairman. He served on the board of Directors of Opportunity School, Samaritan Counseling Center, and a life member of the Texas Heritage Foundation. Jim was a founding director and stockholder of Happy State Bank. In April 2007, Jim retired from the board of directors of the bank after serving for seventeen years. His fellow directors valued his business insight, wisdom, concern for the community, and his deep sense of honesty. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Martha Jane Strickland. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jean Irwin; a son, Lawrence Irwin and wife Mary, and children, Meghan, Jarratt, Tanner and Kelsey; two daughters, Linda Acton, and children Rob, Skyla, and Jamey and Lou Anne Causey and husband Robert, and children, Heather and Lee. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vicente Salinas Vicente Salinas, 83, of Canyon died Monday, June 4, 2007 in Amarillo. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors. Vicente Salinas was born April 19, 1924, in Sabinas, Hidalgo, Mexico. In 1948 he married Aida L. de Guevara, and in 1965 moved his family to Dimmitt, where they lived for 24 years. In 1989 they moved to Canyon where he lived his last very happy years. He loved his family and playing the guitar. He loved to have all his family in his small home. He especially loved Christmas, when the living room would fill up with presents and children. He was preceded in death by a son, Vicente Salinas I. Survivors include his wife Aida Salinas of almost 60 years; a son, Vicente Salinas and his wife, Cuca ; seven daughters, Irma Bazaldua and husband, Jose, Margaret Vaquera and husband Gustavo, all of Canyon, Oneida Perez and husband Sergio, Marta Solis and husband Tomas all of Monterrey, Mexico, Mimi Martinez and husband Mike of Midland, Angie Huffaker and husband Jay, and Christina Aguilera and husband Abel, all of Arlington; 15 grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Christopher Michael Melton KELLER - Christopher Michael Melton, 36 died Saturday, June 2, 2007. On June 19, 1999, Chris married his soulmate, Lauri Anderwald, in Pampa and had a son, Ethan Michael Melton, born March 10, 2004. He resided with his family in Keller and was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church. He was completing his bachelor's degree in geography at the University of North Texas in Denton. Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Neal Melton and Margaret Melton of Amarillo. Mr. Dosher was born Jan. 13, 1934, in Clovis to Alpha J. and Tennie Justice Dosher. He was a U. S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean War aboard the Air Craft Carrier, USS Lexington.
