Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Trinity Fellowship Church with the Rev. Marty Rowley officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Nix was born in Memphis to John Edward and Syna Avyle Nix. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1973. He married Tillie Morales on May 10, 1979, in Hereford. Mr. Nix had owned and operated ABC Tile since 1982. He was an avid Western film watcher and he had a passion for riding motorcycles. He was a soccer coach for more than 10 years and helped under-privileged boys. He was a wonderful father, an inspiration to all who knew him and a Life Donor. He was preceded in death by his father in 1993. Survivors include his wife, Tillie Nix; two sons, Steven E. Nix and Cody Nix, both of Amarillo; and a sister, Karen Bridges and husband Raymond of Amarillo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- John William "J.W." Stevens John William "J.W." Stevens, 72, of Amarillo died Monday, June 11, 2007. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive, with Kevin Anderson, son-in-law, officiating. Mr. Stevens was born Sept. 3, 1934, in Windsor, Mo., was raised there and was a graduate of Cross Timbers High School in Cross Timbers, Mo. As a young man, he lived and worked on the farm. He moved to Dumas in 1955 and met the love of his life, Sue Holt. They were married on Dec. 21, 1956, in Clayton, N.M. He was an electrical specialist and worked for Dumas Electric before moving to Amarillo in 1978. He worked for G.E. Jones Electric as well as Industrial Motors. He retired from O'Reilly Auto Parts in 2003. J.W. loved to read novels, work crossword puzzles and fish. He loved being "Papaw" to his family and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Sue; a daughter, Darla Anderson and husband Kevin of Stratford; two sons, Jay Wesley Stevens of Amarillo and Christopher Eugene Stevens and wife Sheila of Dalhart; six grandchildren, April Riley and husband Cory, Leah Anderson and fiance Andrew Hill, Dustin Stevens, Wesley Anderson, Savannah Ferguson and Andy Ferguson and wife Denesa; a great-grandson, Ayden Ferguson; a sister, Carol Sue Barker of Dumas; and a brother, Billy Lee Stevens of Amarillo; an aunt, Dorothy Jones and husband Jackie of Springfield, Mo.; and a host of other family members and friends. Mr. Hodges was born Sept. 12, 1955, in Clovis, N.M., to Doyce Walter and Viola May Hodges. He married Brenda on April 6, 1974, in Amarillo. He worked in construction as a door hanger. Private burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Maxine Black was born Feb. 15, 1916, to Fleming and Flora Middleton in Haskell. She married Robert L. Black in 1936. Maxine grew up in Canyon and lived with her husband and children in Borger. She was a devoted wife and mother. Maxine was a prayer warrior for her family and friends. She was the last of her generation in the Middleton family. She had a full abundant life. Maxine was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be truly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; three sisters; and four brothers. Arthur St. Mr. Martinez was born Dec. 25, 1927, in Kingsville. He met and later married Ernestina Garza in February 1957 in Corpus Christi. They had been married 32 years when she passed from this life. Mr. Martinez had lived in the Panhandle since 1973 where he and his wife raised their five children. He had worked in agriculture all of his life. He also worked in several departments with the city of Amarillo for about 10 years. Mr. Martinez had always been full of life and been loving and devoted to his family. Throughout his lifetime he enjoyed listening to music, dancing and playing pool. One of his passions in life was teaching his children, then grandchildren how to play pool. He will be missed by the many lives he touched. Survivors include four daughters, Mary Martinez, Dora Ryder, Rebecca Sanchez and Christina Padilla, all of Amarillo; a son, Adalberto "Gilbert" Martinez Jr. of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Doris Jean Swenson Doris Jean Swenson, 76, of Amarillo died Monday, June 11, 2007. She attended Horace Mann Junior High School and Amarillo High School. She married Bud on July 4, 1948, in Clovis, N.M. Mrs. Swenson found delight in bowling for 27 years, bowling in tournaments throughout Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. She was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church for 42 years. She married the love of her life, Billy C. Day, on June 23, 1954, in Abilene. Mrs. Day loved her Lord and served her church homes. She was currently a member of both Paramount Baptist and Lake Tanglewood Community Church. She was a very active supporter of the Food Bank and the Food Outreach Ministry. From 1968 until 1995 she assisted her husband in their local piano and organ business. She was a member of the Lake Tanglewood Arts and Crafts Club, the Birthday Club and the Lake Tanglewood Golf Association. She will be forever cherished and remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survivors include her husband, Billy C. Donneta Ruth Dollar was born July 15, 1951, in Waynoka, Okla., to Donald and Arlene Failes. She married Buck in 1978, in Lubbock. Mrs. Dollar lived in Wheeler for 28 years. She graduated from Northwestern OSU in Alva, Okla. She worked for the USDA for 12 years, and at the Wheeler County Appraisal District for seven years. She became a chief appraiser on Jan. 1. Donneta was a Church of Christ member and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered for many services including Meals on Wheels.
