"Big Mommie" Benard, 81, of Amarillo died Sunday, June 10, 2007. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Mount of Blessing Seventh-day Adventist Church with Rodney Draggon, minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes. Helen Benard was born June 1, 1926, in Daingerfield. She grew up and attended public school in Winnsboro. She moved to Amarillo in 1959. She was a domestic worker and a faithful member of Mount of Blessing Seventh-day Adventist Church. Survivors include a son, Billy Don Simmons of Pittsburg, Texas; three daughters, Nancy Alexander, Marilyn Mills and Gwen Osibanjo, all of Amarillo; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. "Mutt" was born March 13, 1925, in Collin County to Ephriam Marriott and Bertha Elsie Barrow Marriott. He moved to the Texas Panhandle area in the early '40s after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from BSA Hospital. He was a member of South Georgia Baptist Church in Amarillo. He married his wife, Carol, in 1980 in Clayton, N.M. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Tammy Watson. Survivors include his wife, Carol; two daughters, Kathryn Mondry and husband Joe of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Sylvia Jordan and husband Bob of Amarillo; a son, Carroll Marriott and wife Debi of Canyon; two stepdaughters, Bobbye Nell Tupper and husband Howard of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Brenda Dietmeier and husband Todd of Bozeman, Mont.; two stepsons, Bruce Fleming and wife Sara of Hurst, Ill., and Curtis Fleming and wife Amber of Kingwood; a sister, Mary Murray and husband R.J. of Canadian; 22 grandchildren; and 17 great- grandchildren. McLean Jr., 84, of Amarillo died Tuesday, June 12, 2007. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. McLean was born Thursday, May 17, 1923, in Tonkawa, Okla., to Clyde and Naomi Standiford McLean. Mr. McLean served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He married Virginia Schwerman on March 1, 1946, in San Diego. They were married for more than 61 years. He worked at Pantex for 28 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Survivors include his wife, Virginia McLean; four sons, Larry McLean and wife Sandra, Jim McLean, Mike McLean and wife Saundra and Bill McLean; two daughters, Judy Johnson and husband Charlie and Nancy McLean; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Sheriff, 85, of Amarillo died Wednesday, June 13, 2007. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Howard Batson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Wanda L. Sheriff was born Sept. 24, 1921, in Poteau, Okla. Her parents were Roy and Fannie Good. Wanda married the love of her life, Jim Sheriff, on Oct. 12, 1943. At the end of World War II, they moved to Amarillo, where they lived together for 56 years and raised their family. She was a proud member of First Baptist Church all of the years she lived in Amarillo. She worked for Diamond Shamrock as a secretary for 29 years, making many lifelong friends. After retirement, Wanda devoted her life to her friends and family. She was an active member of the Martha Bible Study Class, secretary of the Santa Fe Railroad Lodge for many years, attended the Diamond Shamrock Retirees Group luncheons and enjoyed the Junior Travel Study Club. She loved to play canasta, and she cherished spending time with each of her dear friends. Wanda was lovingly known as "Nana" to her grandchildren and great- grandchildren who were the highlight of her life. She never missed an activity they were involved in, and she loved all family celebrations. She especially loved rocking her sweet great-grandbabies. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; and a brother, Dell Good. Survivors include a daughter, Sue McCarty of Amarillo; a son, Jimmy Sheriff of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Melanie Thompson, Alan McCarty and Brian Sheriff, all of Amarillo; and four great-grandchildren, Avery and William Thompson and Riley and Aaron McCarty, all of Amarillo. Mr. Jackson was born July 13, 1929, in Amarillo to Johnny and Vonnie Jackson. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, the Korean conflict and in Vietnam. He retired from the military as a master sergeant. Mr. Jackson worked for the National Electrical Contractors Association for 11 years after retiring from the military. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He belonged to the VFW and the Royal Order of the Moose. He loved to golf and travel and was an avid camper and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Jackson; and a grandson. He married Terry Willingham on Sept. 26, 1998, in Hedley. Ronnie had retired from General Motors. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union.
