Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Rachel Alice Askins was born Feb. 17, 1929, in Cache, Okla., to Cora and Tilmon Gildon. She married Cecil Askins on Jan. 4, 1947, in Duncan, Okla. They lived in Oklahoma, Texas and Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Ray Askins, on Oct. 4, 1991; her parents; a brother, Deverl Gildon; and a sister, Ina Jo McGlothin. Survivors include three daughters, Alice Rohr and husband Willie of Lamar, Colo., Wilma Myers and husband David of Casper, Wyo., and Verna Popp and husband Jeff of Amarillo; two brothers, Troy Gildon and Roy Gildon, both of Duncan; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Winnie M. "Tiny" Taliaferro Winnie M. "Tiny" Taliaferro, 90, formerly of Amarillo, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, in Claude. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Booker Cemetery in Booker. She married Ralph Taliaferro on Thanksgiving Day 1937. After Ralph's death in 1973, she moved to Amarillo, where she worked for Colbert's Department Store and later Mr. G's Dress Shop until her retirement after more than 20 years as a seamstress. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Leola; and a grandson, Cevin. Sexton. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area The Honorable Judge Don Ezell Cain Sr. PAMPA - The Honorable Judge Don Ezell Cain Sr., 85, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Funderburg, pastor, officiating. Private family burial was in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Judge Cain was born Oct. 8, 1921, in San Marcos to E.M. and Betty Howell Cain. He graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas and North Texas Agricultural College in Arlington where he was elected colonel of the 1941 graduating class. He enrolled at the University of Texas in 1941 and graduated in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946 and then earned a law degree from the University of Texas. Working as an attorney in Fort Worth, Mr. Cain decided to re-enlist and served during the Korean conflict. He moved to Pampa and was in private practice. He married Betty Anne Culberson on June 14, 1952. Mr. Cain served as Gray County attorney from 1955 to 1968 and county judge from 1971 to 1977. He was appointed district judge of the 223rd Judicial District from 1977 to 1991. He was a retired state judicial judge. Throughout the years, Mr. Cain was involved in many civic organizations. He was president of the Adobe Walls Council of the Boy Scouts from 1957 to 1959, earning the Silver Beaver Award in 1958, on the Board of Directors of the Pampa United Fund from 1956 to 1960, and was a member of the American Bar Association, Texas Bar Association, Gray County Bar Association (president in 1968), Pampa Chamber of Commerce 1959 to 1960, Phi Alpha Delta, Masons and Pampa Rotary Club (president 1958-1959). He was a member of First Baptist Church from 1951 until 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Pat Cain; and two sisters, Nona Smith and Frances Cravens. Survivors include his wife, Betty; four children, David Cain and wife Sally of Dallas, Carolyn Dale Husen of Lubbock, Don E. On Nov. 21, 1946, he married Delia Chapa in Pearsall. He retired from the city of Dumas where he had worked for 21 years. Kelly was a former longtime employee of Dumas Cattle Feeders. He had been a resident of Dumas since 1960 and was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. Vera Holcomb Huddleston was born June 9, 1934, in Rivera and passed away July 4, 2007, at her home in Willis. She grew up in Artesia, N.M. Both she and her husband of 55 years, Jack Huddleston, graduated from Artesia High School in 1952. Vera was a registered nurse. She got her BSN at Hendrick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1955, and earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston. Vera was a writer of poetry, song and four books. She was active at First Baptist Church of Conroe and sang alto in a 100-person choir. Vera's interests included horseback riding, bridge, private flying, traveling, reading, dancing, current events and everything else. She was a joy to all of those that knew this remarkably beautiful, brilliant, fun and loving lady. It was a pleasure to be with Vera as she enthusiastically invested her time, attention and imagination into so many things. She leaves the world a better but sadder place. It's impossible to express how special she was and how much she will be missed by friends and her family. Survivors include her husband, Jack Huddleston; three sons, Joe Huddleston and Jim Huddleston of Austin and Jay Huddleston of Houston; a daughter, Jamie H.
