Traughber, 70, of Amarillo died Wednesday, July 4, 2007. Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Traughber was born June 10, 1937, to Archie and Lora Maddox Martin in Pitkin, La. She resided in Amarillo during the 1960s and was a charter member of the Panhandle Chapter of the American Mensa Society. She married Clarence L. Traughber in 1973. Together, they published "The Miami Chief" for several years, winning numerous awards before retiring and moving back to Amarillo in 2005. She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant son, Stanley Denzil "Denny" Hare Jr. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kelly Yauck and husband Leslie of Booker and Kristi Pollard of McKinney; a son, Shaun Hare and wife Jill of Pinos Altos, N.M.; a sister, Thelma Faye Pitre of Lake Charles, La.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many dear friends. Mrs. Cowley was a longtime resident of Earth, and spent the last few years in Big Spring and Amarillo. She was a United Methodist Church member. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Trinity Lutheran Church in the Providence community east of Plainview with Mark Brandes officiating. Ernest was born April 14, 1924, near Plainview to H. Henry and Louise H. Quebe Sammann, early German settlers in the Texas Panhandle. He attended school in the Prairieview community and graduated from Plainview High School. Ernest was a farmer, soldier, inventor and manufacturer during his career. In August 1944, he entered the Army and served under Gen. Patton at the Battle of the Bulge. After his discharge from the hospital for injuries received in that battle, he was placed in a German-speaking unit to document and photograph Dachau concentration camp as it was being liberated. He was discharged from the Army in September 1945. After the war, Ernest returned to Plainview and resumed farming. On Nov. 7, 1946, he married Marie Brown. They farmed in the Prairieview community until 1966, when the family relocated to the Dimmitt area. He lived in the Flagg community near Dimmitt for 41 years until his death. He was preceded in death by a brother, Albert; and a sister, Freda Boedeker. Survivors include his wife, Marie; two sons and their wives, Alfred and Mira Sammann of Lubbock and Charles and Patti Sammann of Amarillo; two daughters, Cheryl Wing and husband Kelly of Ralls and Janet Sammann of Seguin,; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Laura Brandes of California and Clara Stukey of Plainview.
