"Ted" Lucero, 60, of Amarillo died Thursday, July 5, 2007. Rosary was said at 6 p.m. Saturday in N. S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Monsignor Rex Nicholl officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Lucero was born Jan. 7, 1947, in Amarillo. He served in the Vietnam War while in the Marines. He was a very caring person, loved his family and took care of his mother and father. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a carpenter, conductor, real estate investor and a "supervisor." He was the "Father" of the family and a man with a really big heart. He was preceded in death by his father, Neal Lucero. Survivors include his wife, Letty Lucero; seven sons, Freddie Johnson, Donnie Johnson and Isaac Lucero, all of Amarillo, Todd Lucero and Timmy Lucero, both of New York, Ted Lynn Lucero of Houston and Terry Lucero of Nevada; three daughters, Cindy Ontiveros, Stephanie Pantoja and Adella Henderson, all of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Crystal Vizcarra of El Paso; a stepson, Christopher Vizcarra of El Paso; his mother, Adella Lucero of Amarillo; five brothers, Neil Lucero, Robert Lucero, Albert Lucero, Jimmy Lucero and Mark Lucero; three sisters, Margaret Angel, Gloria Rivera and Mary Ann Thomason; and 21 grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, July 8, 2007 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gabe David Anderson Jr. Gabe David Anderson Jr. 89, of Amarillo died Saturday, July 7, 2007. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Farwell with the Rev. Benjamin R. Wright and the Rev. Randall Partin officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Terrace Cemetery in Farwell. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount, Amarillo. Gabe Anderson Jr. was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Okolona, Ark., to the late Gabe and Belva Anderson. They settled in Farwell in the late 1920s when his father bought into the Security State Bank. He attended Texas A&M University and after graduation he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in World War II and was assigned to the Army's First Armored Division. He served in North Africa and Northern Italy receiving commondations including the Silver and Bronze Stars and the rank of major. After the war he married Flora Lee Williams in 1945 and they had two children, Gabe David Anderson III and John Hilliard Anderson. In 1954 his wife, Flora, and youngest son, John, were killed in an auto accident. In 1956 he married Anita Ellis Blackwell of Amarillo. He co-founded the Sherley-Anderson Grain Elevators in Parmer County in 1947. In 1981, Sherley Grain Co. purchased the Cross L Ranch in Folsom, N.M. and Gabe purchased the Cross L Flats Ranch in Branson, Colo. One of his favorite adventures was putting a facelift on the old Cross L Ranch. He also owned farmland in Parmer County and invested in oil and gas properties. Gabe was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus and was a member of various Texas A&M organizations: Aggie Club, Texas A&M Lettermen's Association, Letter winner, Emeritus Member, development council, Mays Business School, 12th Man Foundation, president. He also served as president for the Texas Grain & Feed Association 1968-1969; president of the Panhandle Grain & Feed Association 1964-1965; director of the National Grain & Feed Association 1968-1976; as well as the director of several banks. Gabe was a Mason and a member of the Khiva Shrine and the Lake Tanglewood community Church. Until the past few years Gabe blended his time in the grain business with the Cross L at his headquarters in Bovina. His wife, Anita, through 51 years of marriage, has done a grand job of keeping all her husband's projects together. They were able to blend a lifestyle in corporate circles of the grain and banking business with the cow country of Northern New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, David; and two sisters, Therese and Meredith. Survivors include his wife, Anita; five grandchildren, Alexis of San Diego, Calif., Gabe IV of College Station, Wellsley of Amarillo, John Sargent and Benjamin, both of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; a sister, Marilyn of Farwell; a brother, Robert and wife Carrie of Farwell; a daughter-in-law, Lucy Anderson; and nieces and nephews. Robert Benjamin, 89, of Amarillo died Saturday, July 7, 2007. Memorial services will be at a later date. Mr. Benjamin was born June 10, 1918, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to George Robert and Marie Benjamin. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Like his father before him and his daughters to follow him, he was a proud graduate of the University of Pittsburg. It was there in Pharmacy School, he met the love of his life, Elvira Gillespie. They would spend the next 64 years together. A devoted and loving husband, he spent the last seven years as the primary care giver to his wife. After a successful career as a business owner and pharmacist in Ellwood City, Pa., he assisted in the growth of the GNC organization. He retired at the age of 70, as the vice president of GNC. In addition to his long, successful career, he enjoyed a good game of golf. The past two years he has won the senior golf tournament held at the Venango Trail Country Club in Pennsylvania. There his friends knew him as "Real Old Bob." He was fortunate enough to play his last golf game on May 4th of this year. He and his wife moved to Amarillo just last month to be closer to family. Survivors include his wife, Elvira Gibbs; two daughters, Johanna Marie "Jonni" Applefield of San Diego, Bonna Benjamin and husband Bob Muscianese of Amarillo; a sister, Kathryn Lowe of Saratoga, Fla.; and five grandchildren Aric, Aaron and Jared Applefield, Laura and Chris Muscianese. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Evelyn Mae Gann Evelyn Mae Gann, 82, of Amarillo died Friday, July 6, 2007. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Field officiating. Arrangements are by Angel Funeral Home 2209 S. Arthur. Mrs. Gann was born March 1, 1925, in Amarillo to John Henry and Willie Mae Caldwell. She worked at Pinkey Packing. She was a devoted mother who cared for her family. Mrs. Gann was the primary caretaker of her son, David, for the past 40 years since his accident. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Geraldine Duke. Survivors include a daughter, Marcella Ernestine Ackley of Kennard; four sons, Ernest Ray Gann, Elvin Jack Gann, Ronald Lee Gann and David Gerome Gann, all of Amarillo; 21 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great- grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Claude F. Area Peggy Sue Bryson PANHANDLE - Peggy Sue Bryson, 77, died Saturday, July 7, 2007. Services will be at noon Wednesday in Hillside Christian Church. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Sweetwater Cemetery in Sweetwater. Arrangements are by Andrews Funeral Home of Andrews. Peggy Sue Bryson was born Nov. 16, 1929, on her parents' farm east of Kress to Mr. and Mrs. Grover Bryson, both deceased. When her older sisters started school one fall, Peggy cried to go with them. So, Granny Bryson put her on her little pony and sent her off to school, thinking she would return home soon. But she did not, and at 4 years of age, Peggy started school. She excelled in school, graduating from Kress High School with honors and was offered a basketball scholarship at Wayland Baptist University. Later, Peggy married J.L. Kellum and two sons were born. Peggy continued to have a career in real estate, managing apartment complexes and selling homes. She enjoyed traveling during the middle part of her life, and was able to see a great deal of the world. Besides being a beautiful person, Peggy was a talented artist who loved oil painting. She always loved children and animals and had a great sense of humor. Peggy was a most wonderful, caring and supportive mother to her two sons. She gave such insight to her sons, as well as her nieces and nephews, which they might not have received from other family members. Peggy Sue Bryson passed away early Saturday morning, July 7, 2007, in her sleep in St. Ann's Nursing Home in Panhandle. She had been a resident there for the past year. Peggy will be deeply missed by her sons and family and all who knew her. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Pete Bryson and Bill Bryson; and two sisters, Sis Holiday and Inez Horner. Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Jay Kellum of Pilot Point and Kent Kellum of Amarillo; and a sister, Bobbye Womack of Dallas. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ted Heiskell PAMPA - Ted Heiskell, 58, died Saturday, July 7, 2007, in Amarillo. Mr. Heiskell was born May 10, 1949, in Pampa and was a 1967 graduate of Pampa High School, where he excelled in football. He attended the University of Houston on a football scholarship, and after college, he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals. Survivors include a son, Jerrod Imel of Pampa; a daughter, Sarah Gallagher of Pampa; a sister, Vicki Heiskell of Pampa; and two grandchildren. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Lorene was born April 7, 1929, in Elk City, Okla., to Lowell and Fannie Tosh. She graduated from Berlin Oklahoma High School. She married David Fulce on March 10, 1946 in Wheeler. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1988. Lorene was a member of Sixth and Meredith Church of Christ. She was a volunteer for the American Heart Association for years. She loved her kids, grandkids, greats and her poodles. She enjoyed taking care of the "old" folks at the nursing home and greeting everyone with a smile. She loved God and his church. Lorene worked for the Dumas Independent School District at Cactus Elementary and Green Acres for years and loved feeding all "her" kids. Survivors include three sons, Rick Fulce and Risa and Rod Fulce and Janice, all of Dumas and Robin Fulce and Mary of Panhandle; a daughter, Donna and Joel of Winona; a brother Bill of Missouri; two sisters, Elizabeth and Jay of Arkansas and Vickie and Larry of Georgia; nine grandchildren, Brad Brandi, Brittni, Carey, Jake, Candice, Autumn, Jason and Derek; and 11 great- grandchildren. He graduated from Wheeler High School and Clarendon Junior College. He served in the Marine Corps during the Gulf War. He attained the rank of lance corporal while he was in Japan. He lived in Canadian where he worked at the feed yard. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Meadows in 1995. Carolyn worked as the Human Resource and Office Administrator for CSS Farms in Dalhart. She loved gardening, collecting pigs and talking about their grandchildren.
