Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with the Rev. Karl Cantrell of First Assembly of God officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Elizabeth was born Aug. 28, 1924, in Amarillo. She married Cleophus Sides in 1941 in Amarillo. They were married for 63 years. She was employed by Sears for 20 years, retiring in 1984. She was a longtime member of First Assembly of God in Amarillo. She was vice president and president of Flame International for four years, served as worship leader in her home church for six years and then served as director for Women's Growth Retreats for 12 years, retiring at age 70. She was a member of the Sears Pioneer Club and Oasis Ministry of Love group in Amarillo. She moved to Lubbock to be near her family and started attending First Assembly of God there. She loved her heavenly father, her children and her many cherished friends. She will be truly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; and her husband. Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Howard and husband Douglas of Lubbock; a son, Thomas Troy Sides and wife Antoinette of Phoenix; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don Whitley Don Whitley, 76, of Amarillo died Wednesday, July 11, 2007. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Whitley was born Dec. 9, 1930, in Childress to Clarence and Frances Whitley. He attended Tell and Childress high schools. After high school, Mr. Whitley served in the U.S. Navy. He married Roxanne VerDuft in 1975 in Albuquerque, N.M. Roxanne was the love of his life and he enjoyed playing the harmonica for her. Even while residing at the nursing home, Don treated the other residents to his music during happy hour and dinner. While living in New Mexico, he worked as a produce manager in Piggly Wiggly and Safeway grocery stores. After moving to Amarillo, Don worked for an armored car company until his retirement. Don also spent time as a vendor at the T-Anchor Flea Market until his health prevented him from working. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roxanne, on March 13, 2006; and a sister. Survivors include two daughters, Patty Porter of Arizona and Deborah VerDuft of Wyoming; three sons, Mike Whitley, Billy Whitley of Arizona and Jeff Verduft of Georgia; two aunts, Bonnie Love of Plainview and Bessie Grimes of Amarillo; an uncle, Earl Whitley of Amarillo; five grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jesusa "Susan" Enriquez Jesusa "Susan" Enriquez, 66, of Amarillo died Wednesday, July 11, 2007. Ms. Enriquez was born March 26, 1941, in Houston. She lived most of her life in California, moving to Amarillo in 1990. She was preceded in death by a son, Jesus Chavez Jr., in 1984; a daughter, Lenora Chavez, in 1986; and her father, Pedro Garcia, in 2000. Survivors include her mother, Juanita Garcia of Amarillo; three daughters, Rosemary Mahan and Ruth Ann Chavez, both of Amarillo, and Jeanette Chavez of Las Vegas; a son, Michael Chavez of Arkansas; a brother, Pete Garcia Jr. of Amarillo; a sister, Martha Short of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Billy D.
