Original letter in the Ezell Family Papers. Clarksville, Dec 14th 1877 Martha E. Ezell Dear Sister It has been so long since I have heard from you that I don't know what to do. I feel ashamed of myself for not writing to you sooner but I have put it off from time to time until now & I have resolved to write often whether you do or not. I wrote to you last year & I received no answer and I came to the conclusion that you didn't want to hear from me & I thought I wouldn't write anymore. I haven't heard from you since way last spring. I wrote to the Doctor and still have heard nothing from you. I don't know whether you got my letter or not & you may have written & I not (sic) yours. So I want you to write to me & give me the news of old Catahoula. I would like to know how you are getting along. I am getting along very well making a living. I wont (sic) to come back to see you all next summer about July. I hear from Pa & Ike often they are doing very well. Ike has a good practice and is making some money. Pa is just about making a living. I went to see them last Aug. & stayed a week with them. Pa expects to go with me when I go back to Louisiana. Martin is still in Elmo working at a mill doing very well. Give me love to all the children & tell them that I will bring them some nice presents when I come. I would send them some now but am afraid they will get lost. Tell Dock he must write to me a (sic) let me know how he is doing. I send you one of my pictures. Regard to all inquiring friends & relatives. Address Yours Clarksville A.H. Splawn Red River Co. Texas
