William Angus1 MCFARLIN , born abt. 1797 in Carroll Co. GA. ; deceased aft. 1841 in TX. He married in Carroll Co. GA., Nancy DUNMAN , born 1795 in GA, daughter of Michael Dunman; deceased aft. 1841 in TX. Both probably died in Llano Co. TX, but I have found no graves as yet. Notes for William Angus McFarlin William and his wife, Nancy, came to TX in 1825,first settling in what is now Red River Co. As of 1830, he is listed on the Wavell Colony Register with Nancy and 5 children. He later received a land grant in Hill Co. TX for service to the Republic of Texas. Other researchers claim family lore places him at the Alamo preceding the attack by Santa Anna, but he left on sick leave before the battle. I have found no records to substantiate this claim, but am still looking. In the records listed below, his company was never at the Alamo. I did find Wm. McFarlain listed in Co.C, 1st Regiment Infantry, Regular Texas Army, enlistment date is Aft. 12/2/1835. Served under W.E.Howth. Date of this roster is 06/20/1836. This company is then taken over by Capt. Nicholas Lynch and Wm.McFarlane is listed as of 06/30/1836 as serving under Lynch at Victoria. Then he shows up,listed as McFarland, still with the same company, at Cox Point, Camp Johnson in Aug of 1836. The last muster roll listed for this company shows it at Camp Independence on the San Jacinto. The date of this roster is 10/31/1836-12/31/1836. He is still with them, listed as Wm. McFarland. The listings show him as an enlisted man, not to be confused with Capt. William McFarland, who commanded a different regiment in the war. He moved his family to Llano County,TX in 1841, settling about eight miles west of present day Marble Falls. Notes for Nancy Dunman In the essay “A Sketch of my Childhood”, Nancy’s granddaughter, Martha Nettie McFarlin Gray, Writes of an “Uncle Hickman Dunman”. Hickman Dunman is listed on the 1830 Wavell Colony Register as 30 yrs old. I found Hickman Dunman and his family buried in the Dunman Cemetery on the Bert Haynes Ranch in Llano County,TX. He was born on Mar.18, 1801, GA and died Aug.12, 1885 in Llano Co.
