Splawn purchased 53 565/100's acres of land on the cutoff of the Paris and Clarksville Road, about 1/2 mile west of Clarksville (originally part of a 61 acre tract owned by B.R. Russell and being part of the John M. Ritchey survey. Purchase was made from R.B. Russell and his wife, Nina Russell for the sum of $536.50 payable in 3 promissory notes due on Jan 1, 1887, Jan 1, 188, and Jan 1, 1889 at 11% interest. A vendor lien was retained against the land.
