B. No. 150, passed by the Forty-second Legislature at its Regular session and all other laws of this State relating thereto. I am a widow of John R. Ward deceased, who departed this life on the day of June A. D. 1922, in the county of Red River and the State of Texas. I have not remarried since the death of my said husband; (or in case of remarriage that I am now a widow); and I do solemnly swear that I was never divorced from my said husband John R. Ward and that I never voluntarily abandoned him during his life buty remained his true, faithful and lawful wife up to the date of his death. I was married to him on the 2 day of January, A. D. 1876 in the county of Red River State of Texas. My husband, the said John R. Ward served as a Confederate soldier in the war between the States of the United States; or (that he was a soldier of the militia of the State of Texas, who was in active service during said war.) That my said husband served honorably from the date of his enlistment until the close of the war (or until he was discharged or paroled in some military organization regularly mustered into the army or navy of the Confederate States until the surrender). He was honorably discharged or paroled at the end of the War. That I have been a bona fide resident of this State concinuously since the ___ day of January A. D.1867. 1. Ward, deceased, is in truth and fact the widow of John R. Ward, deceased; that they personally know that she has not remarried since the death of her husband, for whose services in the army she claims a pension, and that they have no interest in this claim. Ward, deceased; that they personally know that the said Margaret Louise Ward has been a bona fide resident citizen of the Strate of Texas since 1900 and that they have no interest in this claim. Gaines a resident citizen of Red River County, Texas; with whom I am well acquainted and to whose creditility I hereby certify and who after being by me duly sworn deposes and says that he is at the present time Adjutant of the John C. Burke Camp, United Confederate Veterans, of Clarksville, said county ad State and is the keeper of the records and seal of said Camp and that he has the original roll of the members of said Camp of all of those who heretofore joined camp, as an exsoldier of the Confederate States of America, that he (this affiant) was one of the first members of said Camp that he was well informed as to the individual membership of said Camp, as they were permitted to join said Camp and become a member of said Confederate Veteran's organization, at Clarksville, Texas. That this affiant remembers the time that John R. Ward late of Red River County, Texas joined said Camp; that at the time the said John R. Ward became a member of said Camp--it was well understood that the said John R. Ward was a confederate soldier in good standing and held an honorable discharge from said Confederate Army and that at one time the said John R. Ward was Vice Commander of the said John C. Burks Camp, United Confederate Veterans of Clarksville, Texas. That the said John R. Ward was reared in Red River County, and it has always been known and understood throughout the life of the said John R. Ward that he served throughout the Confederate Army until his said discharge was issued him. That the said John R. Ward is now dead and that his widow now resides in this (Red River) County, Texas; about 8 miles west from this place. That the said enrollment of said John C. Burks Camp of which he is the present keeper shows the name of said John R. Ward as a member of said Camp and is now deceased. Texas ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The State of Texas () County of Red River() Before me the undersigned authority on this day personally appeared Ike McCulloch, a resident citizen of Red River County, Texas, with whom I am well acquainted and to whose credibility I hereby certify and who after being by me duly swogn deposes and says; that he is more than 9- years of age, that he was well acquainted with John R. Ward, late of Red River County, Texas; that the said John R. Ward is now dead. Affiant states that he was well acquainted with the said John R. Ward at the time he enlisted as a Confederate Soldier in the Confederate Army; Company of Texas Cavalry, and was known as the 13th Texas. Affiant was also a soldier in the Confederate Army and was well acquainted with the said John R. Ward while he was in active service, met him several times while he was on duty and in the Camps at avarious times and occassions. That it was well understood by all who knew the said John R. Ward that he served throughout the Confederate Army, with honor and distinction and was honorably discharged at the close war between the states. That this affiant was well acquainted with the said John R. Ward for many years before the war and after the war, up to the time he died. That the widow of the said John R. Ward is yet living and resides in Red River County, Texas; about 8 or 10 miles east from Clarksville, Texas. In testimony whereof witness my hand, this 8th day of August A. D. 1931.
