James Titus died at his residence at Savannah, 12 miles below town, November 21, 1843. The late Senator from this district was 68 years old. He was born in Virginia, December 10, 1775, removed when very young to Tennessee, near Nashville, from there to Alabama where he was several times a member of the Legislature, and from there he removed to Shelby County, Tennessee, whence he came to this country. He was buried alone, in a secluded grove upon his own grounds. It was a spot selected by himself for his last resting place. His funeral attended by a large concourse of his friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity.
