CHARSKE JR. C.J. Charske, 85, of Brownsville, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, of natural causes. A fourth-generation Texan, he was born in Pecos. After earning an electrical engineering degree from Texas A&M, he was hired by Humble Oil & Refini ig Co., as a field geophysicist searching for oil and gas on the Gulf Coast and Indonesia. During World War II, he was in the U.S. Navy, where he contributed to the technology used by the U.S. and the allied forces in undersea warfare. From 1946 through 1975, Charske was occupied with the development of instruments and techniques used by the oil industry in borehole measurements and seismic exploration. He was an inventor listed on 13 U.S. and several foreign patents. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth. He is survived by a daughter, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
