Paul was a brilliant entrepreneur, plastic packaging pioneer, outstanding husband, loving father, and generous employer of thousands. Born in Pecos, Texas in 1927, Paul moved to California during the Depression with his family. He graduated from Fairfax High and went on to graduate from UCLA in 1949. He started a CPA practice in Beverly Hills and became the business manager of artists including Peggy Lee, Erroll Garner, Bobby Short and Lee Patterson. He loved jazz and supported many of the industry's finest artists, and was involved in supporting the start-up of the Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles.In 1967, Paul embarked on a new venture in plastic manufacturing. He pioneered the technological development and commercialization of products that touch everyone's lives every day such as the first plastic straw, the first plastic hair rollers, cutlery, cups, plates, paint trays and garden hoses. Later in his career, he pioneered, with his sons, the manufacturing of food packaging from environmentally friendly materials that are found in almost every major supermarket and warehouse club stores internationally.The companies he developed were Mor-Win, Winkler/Flexible, Win Cup, Winform, WFI and PWP. He lived to see his sons start another new company, Winplast.His success was fueled by the joy he received from helping others and providing jobs to people globally over a lifetime of work. His generosity extended into his community. At UCLA, Paul was on the Executive Committee of the Foundation Board of Trustee and was a former president of the Annual Fund, a former vice president of the UCLA Campaign, and long time member and chairperson of The Chancellor's Associates. The Winkler's established scholarships for UCLA Freshmen.He loved his wife of 38 years so much and lent much of his time and talent later in life to helping fund and support her passion and career as a Psychotherapist and Senior Staff Member of The Wellness Community.Paul's smile and charisma brought joy to all who were touched by his life. He is survived by his wife, Christine; sons, Christopher, Colin, and Eric; daughter, Jollee; four grandchildren; and his beloved dogs.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Wellness Community South Bay Cities, 109 West Torrance Blvd., Redondo Beach, California 90277, or to the UCLA Alumni Association Scholarships.
