If you know of any corrections that need to be made, please contact me.] ******************************************************************************************************************* Confederate States of America The State of Texas} In County Court County of Refugio} July Term A.D. 1861 Be it remembered that on the first day of July A.D. 1861, personally appeared in open Court Thomas McGuill, an alien and a subject of Queen Victoria Queen of Great Britain and Ireland and make application to be admitted as a citizen of the Confederated States of America in conformity to the laws of the Confederated States and of the State of Texas and declares under oath that it has been his bona fide intention to become a citizen of the Confederated States and that he has been residing in the State of Texas for seven years just past and proves by the evidence of Patrick Shelly and Joseph C. Fagan both citizens of the Confederated States, who appeared in open Court and testified that the said Thomas McGuill has continuously resided within the limits of the State of Texas and within the now jurisdiction of the Confederated States of America for more than five years, that during the whole time, he has behaved himself as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the State of Texas and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the Same and of the Confederated States. And it further appearing to the Court that the said Thomas McGuill has not born a hereditary title or been of any of the orders of nobility in the Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. And it appearing to the Satisfaction of the Court that the said Thomas McGuill having made oath in open Court that he will support the Constitution of the Confederated States of America and of the State of Texas and that he shall (??) absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince - Potentate, State or Sovereignty and particularly those of Great Britain and Ireland and that he will true allegiance bear to the Confederated States of America.
