L. LARD, SHERIFF AND WILLIS CLARK, CO. COMMISSIONER SWORN IN AS NEW OFFICERS A special session of the Roberts County Commissioners' Court was held Monday for the purpose of swearing in new and old officials for the next two years. Only two new officials took the oath of office before County Judge J. A. Mead Monday, they being W. L. (Bill) Lard, Sheriff, Tax Assessor and Collector, and Willis Clark, County Commissioner of Precinct No. 4. Old officials sworn in included County Clerk M. M. Craig; County Judge J. A. Mead; County Treasurer, Mrs. Avis Edwards, Justice of the Peace, J. T. Cantrell, and County Commissioners, L. A. Maddox, Precinct 1; Woods King, Precinct 2; J. B. Waterfield, Precinct 4. Sheriff W. L. Lard had appointed Will Harvey Carr as his Deputy in the Tax- Collector's office. Additional Comments: William L. "Bill" Lard was Sheriff of Roberts County for one term. He was a native of Old Mobeetie, being born there 10 Sept. 1891. He was a Roberts County resident most of his life, engaged in farming and ranching, and died on 19 Nov. 1972. Bill and Addie May Talley married on 17 Feb. 1915 in Roberts County. Bill was the son of William Simpson "Mage" Lard and Harriet Jane "Hattie" Anderson. Addie Mae was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Talley and Nettie Davis.
