        Pioneer Passes - Death Claims Mrs. Lard

Mrs. Annie Zeporia Lard, 64, resident of the Panhandle for nearly 50 years,
died in a local hospital Thursday morning May 20. She had been in failing
health for about six years and for the past four months had been bedfast at
her home, 512 N. Wynne Street. Death came in a local hospital where she had
been taken earlier in the week.

In 1889 Mrs. Lard moved with her parents to a frontier home on Talleyho (sic)
Creek in Roberts County. Thirty years ago she moved to Pampa to make her home.
She was a native Texan, born in Red River County October 17, 1873. Mrs. Lard
had been a member of the Church of Christ for 23 years.

Suvivors are three daughters; Mrs. H. H. Heiskell and Mrs. Roy Hall, both of
Pampa, and Mrs. Mickie Brooks, Dumas, and five sons, Frank, J. D., Roy L., and
Albert, all of Pampa and John N. of Coolige, Ariz., and six grandchildren.

Other surviving relatives are a sister, Mrs. Pearlie Beason, Campbell, Calif.,
and a brother Sam of McAlester, Okla.,both of whom were at the bedside at
death; three half-sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Valentine and Mrs. Kate Coleman, Onley,
and Mrs. Bessie Smith, Ranger; six half-brothers, Robert, Low, Everett, Bert,
Archie, and Hereon Newby, all of Graham.

Funeral services were conducted at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon in the First
Christian Church with the Rev. James Todd, Jr. the Rev. John Mullen, pastor,
and the Rev. C. E. Lancaster officiating. Burial followed in the Fairview
Cemetery under the direction of Duenkel-Carmichael Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were;
Clarence De Cordova, John Tate, Aaron Meek, Earl Talley, E. A. Shackelton and
Hamp Brown.

Additional Comments:
Annie Zeporia was the daughter of John Henry William Newby and Louisa
Katherine Ford. She married Albert Lee Lard, son of pioneers William Thomas
Lard and Catherine Staley Chittim, on 03 July 1891 in Parnell, Roberts County,
Texas.

There were 10 children:
Jennie Katherine, Frank Lowe, Jeff David, Elsie Mae, Albert Thomas, Amy,a
stillborn daughter, Roy Lee, John Newby, and Elida Ellen.

The family moved into Pampa from rural Roberts County in 1905 in order for the
children to attend school. The ranch in Roberts County was first owned by her
father then her husband upon their marriage.

John Henry William Newby was in Wheeler County about 1880 before moving his
family into Roberts County. He returned to Graham, Young County, Texas, was
married 4 times, and had over 20 children.
