Owensville Cemetery Update *********************************************************** Submitted by: Allen Grant Date: May 2010 Copyright. As I have done in the past, I took a look at the listings in the Owensville Cemetery and noticed the J. D. Grant copy. I have been researching the Grant family for more than 30 years and have pretty much confirmed that J. D. Grant's father was Thomas Grant, not Thomas Jefferson Grant. There is a grandson by that name. And, Thomas' wife was married to Sarah Glover. Her sister, Christina, was married to James Davis. Someone speculated that since Christina's name was Davis, then her sister Sarah was a Davis as well...not true. Thomas and Sarah owned property adjacent to James Davis and Christina. I have been to the cemetery in Marshall County, TN and walked the property of the Grant's and Davis' and went to the cemetery on Davis's property. He and his wife are buried there. I was in hopes of finding Thomas Grant's grave, but most of the graves are unmarked. It is only speculation that he was buried there for two reasons. First the Grant's and Davis' were very close. Second, I believe that James Davis Grant (J. D.) may have been named after James Davis. There is, however, no record of his grave...only court entries regarding a request by the Coroner for $5 for the inquest of the body. J. D. was my great-grandfather. James Polk Grant was my grandfather.
