E. It is indeed with sorrow in our hearts that we chronicle the death of our good friend and neighbor, Mr. R. E. Maris who died at a Marlin hospital early Sunday morning, Feb. 11, 1948. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at his home here with Rev. J. L. Wallace in charge of the religious services, he was ably assisted by Rev. F. P. Goodard of Marlin. Burial was in the Franklin Cemetery under the direction of the Peters Funeral Home. Mr. Maris was 54 years of age and was born and reared in Franklin. He joined the Baptist Church when he was 11 years of age and had lived a good christian life since that time. He served as a lieutenant in World War I. In 1919 he was married to Miss Jessie D. Wilson and to this union one daughter was born, Mrs. G. D. Martin of Hearne. Mr. Maris graduated from the Franklin High School and from the University of Texas and when he was stricken he was State Deputy Auditor. He was connected with his father, Mr. W. T. Maris, in the drug business in Franklin for many years. Among those who survive Mr. Maris include his parents, Mr. & Mrs. W. T. Maris of Franklin; two brothers C. E. and W. D. Maris of Franklin; one daughter Mrs. G. D. Martin of Hearne; two grandchildren Sizanne and Glennie Dial Martin III. Active pallbearers were Robert Lloyd Jackson, W. C. Jackson, James Goodman, T.L. Tyson, Tom Rhodes, Horace Hamilton, A. H. Poetter, Frank White Jr.
