HUGHES CEMETERY Location: Approximately five miles west of Pine Hill, south of FM 2867 Number of graves: 20-30 Number of identifiable graves: 1 Number of non-identifiable marked graves: 15-20 Earliest known grave: 1854 Latest known grave: 1933 Age percentage range: 60% adults, 40% infants and/or children Race count: all white, presumably Located immediately south of FM 2867 atop a high embankment in sparse woodland, not identifiable from the road as a cemetery. All that marks the spot are a few old cedar and oak trees and several graves marked only with large iron ore rocks. One grave was identifiable and it's headstone and footstone were both dislocated. This cemetery was started by the Absolum Highes family, who came to Texas in 1849 and settled near this site. Identifiable graves: Ferguson, Lucy J.
