    Communication     from Gov. Pease of Texas Relative to the Troubles in 
    the State. May 11, 1868 - Referred to     the Committee on Reconstruction
    & ordered to be printed. Signed by Headquarters Dist. of Tex. Bureau of 
    Freedmen, Refugees & Abandoned Lands, Austin, Tex. Feb. 8, 1868.

    (No. 49) James OLIVER attempted to murder Sam KNOWLES (colored), shot in 
    head.

    (No. 283) July 28, 1867, Jesse DIXON, James ELLISON & Will HARRIS (white)  
    murdered Green JONES (colored). Arrested Green, representing that they 
    had authority to take him to marshall for trial. A few days afterwards 
    Green was found murdered in Jone's bayou bottom.

    (No. 284) July, 1867. Cornelius CAMPBELL (white) murdered a colored man.  
    Rose CAMPBELL (colored) testified that she saw him committ the same & 
    that he threatened to kill her if she reported the fact.

    (No. 285) July, 1867. Isaac CRENSHAW (white) murdered Henry (colored). 
    Could not be found.

    (No. 286) July 1, 1867. N. B. AIKEN (white) assaulted Caroline SMITH 
    (colored). Struck Caroline with his fist.
