  Blanton, J. D. (his son, Ben Blanton lived in Rusk Co.)

    Pension # 24477. From Cherokee Co., P. O. Alto, TX. Filed Aug. 7th,
    1913, Approved Sept. 1, 1913. Pension allowed Dec. 1, 1913. Jacob
    Davidson Blanton states that he was honorably discharged at Navasota,
    Texas at the close of the war. Questionaire states:
    1. Age is 80 years
    2. Born in Duplin Co., NC
    3. Had resided in Texas since 1857
    4. Resides in Cherokee Co.
    5. Resided in Cherokee Co. for 12 years in Alto, Tex.
    6. Never applied for pension before
    7. Occupation: States he is no longer able to work.
    8. His command was organized in Texas.
    9. Served about 12 months.
    10. Served in Co. F., Border's Regiment.
    11. Was never transferred from his regiment.
    12. Was in the dismounted calvary.
    13. Was never commissioned.
    14. Never detailed for special service.
    15. States he had not transferred any property in order to get a pension.
    Signed Jacob Davidson Blanton, Aug. 1, 1912 & subscribed by C. F.
    Gibson, Cherokee Co. Judge.
    Affidavit of Witnesses signed by Jas. P. Gibson & T. J. Clay.
    James P. Gibson said, "That he was in the same regiment with
    applicant during the war, and knows of his own personal knowlege that
    the said applicant was in Border's regiment, of which regiment affidavit
    was a member, and knows that the applicant was a loyal soldier, and
    that he never deserted."
    The Certificate of State & Co. Assessor says that J. D. Blanton had
    property worth "not any" dollars. Signed Aug. 5, 1913 by P. B.
    Wusslewhite. 
    Cert. # 2069420 from the War Dept., The Adjutant General's Office,
    Washington, Aug. 19, 1913, states:
    There are no rolls on file in this office of Troop F., Border's Texas
    Calvary Dismounted, Confederate States Army, and no record has been
    found of the capture or parole of a Jacob D. Blanton as of that
    organization. The records show, however, that one Jacob _ Blanton,
    private, Co. F., 1st Tex. Legion Calvary, Confed. States Army, enlisted
    May 7, 1862, last on which his name appears, he was reported
    discharged June 15, 1862. No later record of him has been found.

    Letter dated Aug. 29, 1917 to Mr. J. C. Jones, Commissioner of
    Insurance, Austin, Tex.
    Dear Sir: Will you please send me, at once Blank Application for
    making claim for the Dept. of Pensions, for burial expenses of Confed.
    Vets. I think $30 is the amount allowed. Please state if this is correct.
    My father died on the 8th day of this month; and I want to secure the
    amount allowed, by the state for burial expenses. Kindly attend to this
    at once & greatly oblige. Yours truly, Wm. Blanton. P. S. My father, J.
    D. Blanton Alto Texas is on the Pension roll.
    Witness statement:
    State of Tex., Co. of Cherokee. Before me, G. F. Gibson, Co. Judge of
    Cherokee Co., Tex., on this day personally appeared J. E. Bagley, who
    is personally known to me to be a credible person, who being by me
    sworn, on oath, states that he is personally aquainted with J. D.
    Blanton, & that the statements made in his application are correct &
    true, to the best of his knowlege... That affiant J. E. Bagley belonged to
    Border's regiment battalion, Scott Anderson's regiment, & that said J.
    D. Blanton belonged to that regiment, and that he knew him frequently.
    That he knows of his own knowlege that the said applicant served about
    1 year in the said batalion, that he was a true & legal soldier, & that he
    never deserted. Signed J. E. Bagley, Dec. 6, 1913. C. F. Gibson, Judge.
    Mortuary Warrent No. 301 written out to Wm. Blanton for $30 &
    states:
    Co. of Cherokee. William Blanton is listed as person entrusted to pay
    the indebtedness of J. D. Blanton, pensioner. Says J. D. Blanton died
    Aug. 8, 1917 in the town of Laneville, Rusk Co., Tex. in the home of
    Ben H. Blanton, his son. William states that he is also a son of J. D.
    Blanton & that his home town is Alto, Cherokee Co., Tex. Sworn Aug.
    27, 1917. Signed William Blanton.
    Certificate of undertaker states:
    M. Hogan is undertaker & states that William Blanton is who the mort.
    warrent should be issued to.
    Statement of physician states:
    A. H. Gallaway was attending physician & the ailments are listed as
    general breakdown of physical condition - the immediate cause of death
    was "heart failure". Signed Aug. 25, 1917 by A. H. Gallaway, M. D. of
    Laneville, Tex.

  Blanton, Mrs. M. A. (widow of J. H., they were m. in Rusk Co.)

    Widow's application for pension, # 16146. States she's in Nacogdoches
    Co., Tex. Post office Cushing. Approved Aug. 31, 1909.
    Form B says:
    Mrs. M. A. Blanton is the widow of J. H. Blanton who died Mar. 7, 1892
    in Rusk Co., Tex. States that she never remarried & that she married J.
    H. Blanton on Jan. 9, 1873 in Rusk Co., Tex.
    1. Age is 56 years old as of Mar. 9, 1909.
    2. Born in Rusk Co., Tex.
    3. Has resided in Tex. for 56 years.
    4. Lived in Cushing, Texas for past 5 years.
    5. Husband's full name was James Harvey Blanton.
    6. Was married Jan. 9, 1873, in Rusk Co., Tex.
    7. He died Mar. 7, 1892.
    8. Husband's command was organized in Missouri.
    9. He served about 3 years & enlisted in the summer of 1862 & served
    until the close of the war.
    10. Served in Co. E., 3rd Missouri Regiment, Shelby's Brigade.
    11. Served in the calvary.
    12. States had not transferred property in order to get the pension.

    Affidavit of witness states that W. W. Perkins & Chas. Perkins
    personally know Mrs. M. A. Blanton & that she was the widow of J. H.
    Blanton. Signed Charles Perkins, Aug. 9, 1909.
    Certificate of State & Co. Assessor:
    A. Y. Donegan, assessor of Nacogdoches Co., Tex. certifies that Mrs. M.
    A. Blanton has property worth $520. Aug. 20, 1909.
    War Dept. Record # 1565716, Dated Sept. 14, 1909:
    "The records show that J. H. Blanton, 1st Lieut. & Capt., Co. E, 6th
    Missouri Calvery (also known as 3d Missouri Calvary), Confederate
    States Army, enlisted Sept. 12, 1863. On the company roll for Jan. &
    Feb., 1864, last on file, he is reported present. No later record of him
    has been found."

    Application of Mrs. M. A. Blanton is shown as pending in Nacogdoches
    Co., Tex. & says is taking the deposition of W. W. Blanton of Carnes
    Co., Tex. & states she is residing in Nacogdoches Co. & signed by F. P.
    Marshall.

    I, J. A. Hughes, state & county assessor of Rusk Co., Tex., do certify
    that Mrs. M. A. Blanton, whose application for pension has been
    represented to me as being on file in Co. of Nacogdoches, Tex., under
    act of 31 Leg. is charged on the bond & personal property rolls of Rusk
    Co., in her name, personal & mixed at the assessed value of $500. Aug.
    21, 1909. Signed J. A. Hughes, State & Co. Assessor.
    Application for Mortuary Warrent:
    Co. of Bexar. Ruth Blanton is entrusted with paying the debts of Mrs.
    M. A. Blanton, pension #16146 whose original county was Nacogdoches.
    Mrs. M. A. Blanton died on Jan. 26th, 1929 in the town of San Antonio,
    Texas. She died in Lee Surgical Hospital. Ruth Blanton is the daughter
    of M. A. Blanton & her address was 1115 W. Summit Ave., San
    Antonio, Tex. Signed Ruth Blanton, Feb. 4, 1929.
    Certificate of Undertaker:
    Claude Scuggs of Wilhest Scuggs of San Antonio had charge of the body
    of Mrs. Mildred Blanton who died in San Antonio on Jan. 26, 1929.
