WALLACE From the files of Mrs. T. D. Stevens Jacksonville, Texas Mrs. Stevens is the great granddaughter of Captain Harvey Alexander Wallace of Minden, Rusk County, Texas. Captain Wallace was a Recruiting Officer for the Confederate Army and these documents provide not only the name of the soldier and place of birth, but it also gives a physical description and the occupation of the person. THE STATE OF TEXAS: COUNTY OF RUSK I, R. G. W. TURNER, born in Henry County, in the State of Georgia, aged Twenty- Five years, and by occupation a Farmer. DO HEREBY ACKNOWLEDGE to have voluntarily enlisted this lOth day of May 1862, as a SOLDIER in the Army of the Confederate States of America, for the period of THREE YEARS OR THE WAR unless sooner discharged by proper authority; Do also agree to accept such bounty, pay, rations and clothing, as are, or may be established by law. And I, R. G. W. TURNER, do solemnly swear that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA, and that I will serve them honestly and faithfully, against all their enemies or, opposers, whomsoever: and that I will observe and obey orders of the President of the Confederate States, and the orders of the Officer appointed over me, according to the Rules and Articles of War.
