Messrs. R. T. Milner, J. J. Rayford, H. H. Wellborn, John Alford, Frank Stroud, Robert Gould, Henning Spivey, Otis Dunklin & Mack Brown also attended the Thanksgiving game. Buys Newspaper Mr. Wm. J. Lawson, secretary of the Center Chamber of Commerce for several years, has purchased the Center Champion, one of the oldest East Texas newspapers. The paper has been owned & edited by Wendel W. Mayes, and although we are sorry to lose Mr. Mayes from our circle, we are glad to welcome Mr. Lawson into the fraternity. Back From Rochester Mr. Marvin O. Gibson, of the Times force, is at home from the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., where he has been for special eye treatment. Mr. Gibson recieved a bad burn on his face when a child, and while away underwent a successful operation whereby a new lid was grafted on his right eye. The treatment calls for a return to Rochester in about 6 months. Mad Dog Killed Mr. E. A. Green killed a dog believed to be suffering with rabies early Friday morning across from his home, on the Joe Holt lawn. The dog had on a collar showing it to belong to a Tatum man & it no doubt came all the way from that place, & persons living between Henderson & Tatum are warned to keep a close watch on their dogs & livestock for any signs of rabies. Social Notes: Little Jess Davis Rayford, son of Mr. & Mrs. J. J. Rayford, entertained a number of young friends with a party Mon. afternoon, celebrating his 5th birthday. Presbyterian Circle No. 2 met with Mrs. G. R. Farmer last Mon. Mrs. P. C. Wright was hostess with a bridge party Sat. afternoon. Diptheria Cure 2 small girls of Mr. & Mrs. D. G. Dulin are suffering with diptheria, but having already been given the serum they are expected to improve at once. This is the 3rd case for the oldest girl, according to the father,, and Mr. Dulin also states that he has taken the serum himself on 5 different occasions. Narrow Escape Mrs. Bradford Griffin narrowly escaped serious injury recently, when a stray bullet struck her as she was driving near Longview. The bullet was removed from her head & she has been doing nicely since. Dick Alford of Detroit, Tex. was the weekend guest of his parents, Mr. & Mrs. E. B. Alford. Injured in Wreck Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Ferguson and Mrs. R. J. Finley of Longview, were badly injured in an automobile wreck Wed. a few miles n. of Tatum. Mrs. Ferguson, who was driving, lost control of the closed car, it turning over & pinning the occupants underneath. Mr. Ferguson recieved lacerations on the face, Mrs. Ferguson a broken arm & several broken ribs, Mrs. Finley seeming to be more seriously injured, having been hurt internally, also having one arm broken, and was unconcious for some time afterwards. Stewart in the Henderson Cafe last week & will completely remodel the interior to make it a clean, modernly equipped well conducted cafe. The business will be run under the name of the Silver Grill Cafe. Mr. Compton has been in Dallas purchasing new gas stoves & other equipment, and plans to re-open in the near future. He also announces the connection of his brother, Mr. Billie Compton, with the new firm. Express Appreciation Santa Clause made an early visit to the manse of the 1st Presbyterian Church & left an Atwater Kent radio to add to the pleasure of the occupants. Davidson Eye Injured Roscoe Endel, son of Mr. & Mrs. joe Endel, who came near losing the sight of one eye when shot by an air rifle several years ago, was struck in the same eye by flying particles from an exploded torpedo Sunday, and was rushed to Dallas for special treatment. Vernon, Tex. has moved to Henderson, and is now connected with the Henderson Hardware & Furniture Co. Shot While Hunting Mr. Jim Bellamy was accidently shot by a friend last week while bird hunting. He was rushed to an eye specialist in Longview, his most serious wound being in one eye, where he recieved first aid treatment. Mr. W. L. Dickinson of Alexandria, LA, and Mr. & Mrs. Malcomb Dickinson & child of Palestine, were week-end guests of Henderson relatives. Five Break Jail Five young men who were arrested last week for an alleged attempt to break into & rob a Mt. Enterprise store, escaped from the local jail via the "roof route" Friday night, and have not yet been recaptured. They gave their home as Houston. Mr. J. Chamberlain of Henderson has qualified for the annual Southland Round-Up of agents according to announcement by the Southland Life officials today. In addition to qualifying for herself, Mrs. Chamberlain has qualified to take her husband also to the Round-Up. The rules of the company require that an agent produce $100,000 worth of business in order to qualify for the Round-Up, and an additional $25,000 for husband or wife... E. E.
