June 4, 184- p. 3 State of Texas County of Sabine: Know all men by these presents that I, Theophilus HICKMAN aged ninety three years a resident of Jasper County State aforesaid, do by these presents do ----, constitute and appoint David S. KAUFMAN of Saline County, State aforesaid my true and lawful attorney for me and in my name to apply to the proper offices of the Government of the United States, for any pay, endowment, Bounty Land, pension or any sort of compensation or reward that I may be entitled to by virtue of my three month's service as a volunteer in the militia of Edgecombe County, North Carolina under the command of Captain John BONDS, which company formed out of the Regiment of Colonel Joseph CLINCH in the Revolutionary War of the United States, and the said KAUFMAN is hereby authorized to grant in my name receipts and acuanttances to the Government as fully as I myself could do if personally present, hereby ratifying and confirming all my said attorney may legally do in the Presents - And should the laws in existance not be sufficient to extend to my relief my said attorney so hereby authorized to address in my name a petition to congress praying for appropriat Relief - Herby ratifying and confirming all things legally done - In testimony of all which I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this April 29th A.D. 1846. HICKMAN, subscribing hereby to the foregoing power of Attorney personally came before me the undersigned authority and acknowleged the same as his act and deed. Present p. 5 Power of Attorney (this is a form - bbp) Know all men by these presents, that I Asa HICKMAN do hereby irrevocably constitute and appoint Chas. C. TUCKER, of Washington City, D. C. my true and lawful Agent and Attorney to prosecute the Claim of Theophilus HICKMAN for any amount of Revolutionary Pension or increase of Pension that may be due under the provisions of the Act of (blank) or any other Act or Resolution of Congress, and I hereby authorize my said Attorney to examine all papers and documents in relation to said Claim on file in the Departments at Washington City, or elsewhere, to file additional evidence or arguments, and to receive the Certificate which may be issued for said Claim, and to appoint one or more substitutes under him for the purposes herein expressed : and to do all things that I might or could do, were I personally present. On this 30th day of April 1853, before me a Notary Public in the said County and State mentioned personally appeared Asa HICKMAN the son of Theophilus HICKMAN and acknowleged the foregoing Power of Attorney to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned. To certify which I have hereunto signed my name and affixed my official seal this 30th of April A. D. 1853. Thomas N. BRENAN (signed) State of Texas Jasper County On this 30th day of April 1853, before me the undersigned Notary Public in and for the County and State aforesaid, personally appeared Asa HICKMAN a resident of Sabine County, and made oath according to law that he is the identical Asa HICKMAN who executed the foregoing power of Attorney, and that he is directly interested in said Claim, and makes this affidavit to be filed with such additional evidence or arguments as my said Attorney may use in prosecuting said Claim. BRENAN Esq., before whom the foregoing affidavit and acknowlegement were made and who has thereunto signed his name, was at the time of so doing a Notary Public, in and for the County and State aforesaid, duly commissioned and sworn, and that all his official acts as such are entitled to full faith and credit. D. 1846, Personally came Theophilus HICKMAN a resident Citizen of the County aforesaid whom I have known as such for the last twelve years. Before me M. B. LEWIS Chief Justice in and for said County and being by me sworn says: That he served a tour of three months as a volunteer in the Militia of Edgecomb CCounty North Carolina US, under the command of Captain John BONDS whose Company formed out of the Companies of Colonel Joseph CLINCH's Command in the years(?) (not remembered) whose duty assigned was to guard the frontiers, which duty by him was faithfully discharged that said deponent (?) recieved from said Officers an honorably discharge which he has since lost that he has never recieved anything for said services (?), that he is now ninety three years of age, that he deserves that the Government award has ag--- to the merits of his case, Further deponant says not all to the best of my recollection.
