MOSIAC CEMETERY, San Augustine County, Texas, was surveyed and transcribed on November 11, 2009, by Bob
Britnell.  (misterbob@suddenlink.net)  Mosiac is an African American cemetery located on the edge of the city of San
Augustine.  DIRECTIONS:  On US96 just north of the junction with SR21, where FM711 crosses the highway, take a
quick left (just before 711) on Crockett Street. (there is a sign at the corner)  At the end of the street, go right and up the
hill; the road ends at the cemetery.
Because I was there on Veteran's Day, particular care was taken to correctly record the information available on the
many Veteran's markers; proper honors were rendered to each of my fellow veterans.
I estimate that the burials listed below represent about half of the total recognizable graves.  There are many
unmarked graves, broken slabs, depressions and mounds in the cemetery; many flat markers have disappeared into 
the red clay soil, and a number of upright markers are sinking.  I had to excavate two dozen markers in order to read
the bottom half of the engravings.
