His wife, Mary Catherine Wolf Zug was of German ancestors, who also migrated to America. Charles Wesley Zug and his wife, Mary Catherine, left Mount Holly Springs in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in 1876 with their four infant children, travelling by train and wagon to Ft. Griffin, Texas. The cabin Charles built burned down, and the wife and children returned to Pennsylvania. Charles built a new cabin, and the family returned for good. Three children grew to adulthood- Annie Zug George (Albany); Charles Wesley Zug Jr. (Albany); and F. Conrad Zug (Waco).
