Woodyard and Martha Jackson. In 1851, he moved with his parents and siblings to Russell County. Ala. There, on June 1, 1861 he inlisted in Hardaway's (later Hurt's) Battery of artillery. By June 21, 1861, this unit was in Lynchburg, Va. and assigned to the Confederate Army. Woodyard, along with the remainder of the battery, surrendered at Appomatox April 9, 1865. Sometime during the early 1870s he moved to Texas where he married Isabella Billingsley. According to the 1910 census they had no children. It is not at this time where either are buried. Additional Comments: Sources include Joseph's father's Alabama estate records, Confederate Army records of Alabama, both Joseph's and Martha's Confederate pension records in Texas, various census records.
