D. S. Carnahan Judge of the County Court in and for same County. The undersigned, your petitioner, Rebecca Adams a citizen of said County and State, respectfully represents that she is the surviving widow of Thos. J. Adams (commonly called Jefferson Adams) who was a Texas Veteran and participated in the struggle between Texas and Mexico. Sevd for a period of three months between the 9th day of October A.D. 1835 and the 23rd day of April A.D. 1836 as is evidenced by a certified copy of his Bounty Land Warrant hereto attached and made part of this petition, and which is prayed to be taken and read as such. She further aver that she now remains and ever has remained unmarried since the death of the said Thomas J. Adams – that she is in very indegent circumstances being old and infirm and with no means of support whatever. Adams having served faithfully and honorably for the term of three months from the 7th day of Oct. to the 18th Decr. 1835 and from the 1st March untill the 23rd day of April A.D. 1836, and having been honorably discharged is entitled to Three Hundred and Twenty Acres County Land for which this is his Certificate and the said Thomas J. Adams is entitled to hold said land or to sell alienate, convey and donate the same, and to exercise all rights of ownership over it. In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand at Austin this twenty second day January 1846 Wm. G. Cooke Approved May 20 1847 ********************************** The State of Louisiana Parish of Caddo I Hulda C. Knox a citizen of the State and Parish aforesaid solemenly swear that in the latter part of year A.D. 1835 and first of the year A.D. 1836, I resided in the County of Nacogdoches in the State of Texas. Was then and there intemately acquainted with Jefferson Adams and Rebecca Adams his wife. Jefferson Adams went to and returned from the War between Texas and Mexico. I was often at his house during his absence in said war and remember well his return from same. The said Jefferson Adams is now deceased, his widow Rebecca Adams has since his death remarried and is now unmarried is now residing in Shelby County in the State of Texas, is aged and infirm and quite poor as regards pecuneary affairs. Parker – Shelby County, also mentions that Jefferson Adams has been dead some 10 years. dtd: 8/22/1877 Evaline Daniel – Shelby County Letter from the Clerk of Court in Shelby County evidencing that Rebecca Adams is due a pension from the State of Texas. dtd: 1876 Receipt of $187.50 to Rebecca Adams Probate records show that Thomas Jefferson Adams died in Matagorda County at some time prior to June 30, 1851. John C. Perry was appointed administrator of his estate.
