Thompson, June 3, 2000 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The following typewritten transcript was folded in the Bible: TRIBUTE OF RESPECT To more forcibly remind us of the uncertainty of life, and to convince us that Death is a subborn [sic] fact, the Great Creator takes from our midst, on who, but a short time since dwelt among us, and was of our flesh; one who rejoiced with us when prosperity gilded our pathway, and mourned with us when adversity darkened our future. The Great Master of the Divine Lodge above has not called our beloved brother from labor in this earthly Lodge below for a given time. He has not called him from us temporatily, that at our pleasure the absent brother can again assemble with us beneath this Fraternal roof, and labor with us for the mutual good of our fellow-man, as was his custom of doing in days gone by, and as masons can only do--nay not. Brother Thompson's voice is silenced forever; his footstep will ne're [sic] be heard again, approaching our most Holy Altar, and that noble form that always walked erect through life, will never be seen within these sacred walls; all that remains to remind us of the Brother, is his honest name, and his many good deeds, which will ever remain fresh and green in the dreary desert of our past life. As as [sic] he was a memver [sic] in good standing of this Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons- Be it Resolved, That in the death of Brother Wm. B. Thompson this Lodge sustains the loss of some of its best material, and such as can only be replaced be [sic] him who followed in his foot-steps. Be it further Resolved, That in returning the body of our deceased brother to the lonely grave, there to sleep that last sleep that knows no waking, and in yielding up the soul to Him who gave it, we do so with the most profound feelings of regret, hoping that our loss and the loss of the community general will be Heaven's gain, and that we extend to the bereaved family of our departed brother our deepest sympathy in their hours of affliction; and may his dear ones be rewarded for their separation on earth, by a re-union in that better land where the wicked cease from troubling, when they too are commanded to shuffle off this mortal coil. Be it resolved, That each member of this Lodge wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days, and that this memento of remembrance of Brother Wm. B. Thompson, who departed this life, Nov. ____, 1872, be spread upon the minutes of the Lodge, published in "The Tyler Reporter," and a copy of the same furnished to the family of the deceased.
