III, No. 2, Spring 1979, page 16 ABSALOM SHAMBURGER Contributed by Mildred Shamburger Editor's Note: In the last issue, in the histories of Peter and Matthew Shamburger, the name Schaumburg was incorrectly spelled Schaumberg. Absalom Shamburger was born 1808 in North Carolina and died 1886 in Wood County, Texas. He was married to Elizabeth Frances Harrison In Mississippi, where he lived from 1836 to 1847. He then moved to Texas, settling in Smith County. Later he moved to Wood County. On the 1860 census of Wood County, Absalom is listed as a physician. He was the son of John Shamburger, an emigrant from Germany. John came to America circa 1776 by way of Holland from the province of Schaumburg. The children of Absalom and Elizabeth Frances Shamburger were: l. Spinks La Fayette Shamburger - born October 31, 1841, Lauderdale County, Mississippi; married Mary E. Morrow, July 23, 1868. 2. Elija Shamburger - born in Mississippi, died young in Mississippi. 3. John Archibald Shamburger - born in Mississippi, died young in Mississippi. 4. Peter Monroe Shamburger - born in Smith County, Texas; married Love Fuller. 5. Elizabeth Cornelia Shamburger - born in Smith County, Texas; married George W. Hutchings.
