Levi R. Dennis was born on January 7th, 1820 in Tennessee. Licensed to preach in 1839, moved to Texas in 1854, and joined the East Texas Methodist Conference the same year. He married Miss Martha L. Hughes, of Bedford county, Tennessee, Nov. 14th,1848. Mrs. Dennis was born January 9th, 1826. Thy had four children - Alice A. - died in infancy - Mary E., Maggie A. and Sallie s. Rev. Levi R. Dennis was a prominent Methodist preacher and held many prominent stations and that of presiding elder. He was a logical pulpit orator and a very forceful and eloquent preacher. His wife was a very devout Christian and a zealous helper in her husband's ministerial duties. He was presiding elder of Tyler district in 1859 and resided in this city. He was a warmhearted, genial man, and poplar with his flock, as well as the people. His residence was in Tyler up to his death, which occurred April 20th, 1873. Mary E. married Robt. T. Dorough Nov. 19th, 1872. They had eight children - Levi R. - died in infancy - Robt. P., Leta - died at four years of age - Ivie - died at the age of three - Maggie W., Virgie, Bessie and Evelyne - the last mentioned is dead. Robt. P. Dorough married Miss Leah Heeter, of Louisville, Ky. She is quite accomplished and a very sweet young woman. Robert is a young lawyer of promise and bids fair to reach the point of success in his profession. Miss Sallie S. Dennis is a resident of this city and makes her home with her sister, Mrs. R. P. Dorough. She is an amiable Christian woman, well educated and accomplished. Maggie A. married Jim Langston, formerly of Palestine, Texas, now of Cleburne, Texas. They have had eight children, two dead and six living. The Dennis family have been and are now prominent people in church, business and social circles, being numbered among the best people. Mary E. married Robt. T. Dorough, who died a few years ago in this city; she resides here and has an interesting family. Robt. T. Dorough was a prominent business man during his lifetime and had many relatives and friends who seriouisly lamented his death.
